If the hard drive failed you will first need to replace it with a working hard drive. One that is done, power on the computer with the recovery disc is the drive and enter setup. It should say something like press F9 or F10 for Setup. Look through the menus for "Boot Order", make sure your CD/DVD drive is above hard drive. Save the changes and reboot, you should get a message "Press any key to boot to disc" or something similar, do so, and follow the prompts to re-install windows.

You might have another part that has gone bad. Check the RAM and see if it gives you any problems.

There is a program call mem test that you can burn to a CD and test your memory. But if your no longer able to get to the bios:
you def had a hardware problem.

How do I reboot with our a disc, please and thank you

Power on the computer.
Put the disk in the optical drive.

When asked there are two options.
A) Repair (Non-Destructive Installation)
B) Full Installation (Destructive Installation)

If you do Not wish to keep your personal documents on your computer, use Full Installation.
It will take your computer back to Day 1 when it came from the factory.

If you wish to keep your personal documents,
(Pictures, Videos, Music, documents you have created, or downloaded, programs you have installed, or downloaded from a website),
then click on Repair.

IF, upon starting your computer, and installing the Restoration Disk in the optical drive, (And closing the optical drive tray), does Not work, please post back in a Comment.

You'll have to go into BIOS Setup, and in Boot Options set the first boot device to CDROM.
(Doesn't matter if you have a CD or DVD optical drive. To include a burner version)

This will force the computer to boot off of the disk in the optical drive.

How do I restart my computer from the hard drive do I press ALT and F10 or can you tell me how to set up from a XP pro boot disc

if you want to boot setup from xp pro boot disc, you have to go first to the bios/cmos setup of your system, from there check the boot order, if you find that the first boot device is your hard drive change it, make your cd/dvd rom your first boot device and second your hard drive save the setting that you have made and restart your pc, before you restart insert the installation disc, then reboot, from there it will automatically boot in the xp pro set up disc

Lost restore disk, want to install oem windows xp. computer doesnt read disk

I assume you're saying that the pc is not booting from the DVD/CD? If that's the case, you
need to go to the BIOS setup, where you need to change the device boot order. It's now
probably set to start running from the hard drive, reason why your DVD/CD is not booting.
To go to the BIOS setup, press the F2 or delete, or whatever key the first POST messages
instruct you to use to go into SETUP mode. Different BIOS manufacturers use different
keys, so you have to be quick and interrupt the boot process using the correct key. If you
fail to determine what key it is, reboot once again, until you see/read what key does the
job.
Next, once you're into the setup screens, look for one set of options called Boot Options
or Boot Order. Read the instructions to learn what keys to use to change the values.
Ensure that the first device accessed is the CD/DVD drive, then whatever else next, etc.
Once that's done, save your settings following the prompts, load your DVD/CD and reboot
again.
That should read the disc and start the installation.
Good luck!

Software disc

You need your original installation disc(s), or start up the machine and hold down the f8 key and then, 1st boot on the last known good.
2nd, reboot holding down the f8 key and then try the restore method. Most machines have a 4 to 10 gig partitioned on the C drive which holds your restore partition. Else, if you have the orginal OS disc, put it in your cd reader, it will come up with the start up screen for installation. when you get to the install window say OK, then when the window comes up you should have a choice of intalling new or repairing the hard drive ... repair the hard is the correct choice. This should work if there isn't a hard drive problem, or your hit with a virus, or that the hard drive has a bad boot mbr.

My brother has a pioneer DVD RW DVR 115D dvd drive in his computer. Windows cannot install driver for this device. When I download the driver and try to install It says In a blck box" cannot find...

try a firmware update from Pioneers website for the DVD RW drive.
try to download the driver, but don't install it. Wait until windows recognizes the drive, and then install the driver. Restart the computer just the way it is.

or try it this way:

go to this site:

http://wwwbsc.pioneer.co.jp/product-e/ibs/device_e/dev00001r_e.html

scroll down until you see : "DVR-115 series Firmware"

download the firmware for your specific device

DVD-RW drive burns music CDs and DVDs, but not data CDs

Alright. Seems like Windows, for some reason, doesn't think your drive is able to burn things when trying to deal with this kind of disc.

I'll need further information, like if you use another program to burn music CDs, and what other things might have changed the registry settings. I know of a fix that resolves issues with the Windows version of data CD burning, but it only applies to CD-R and CR-RW drives..
