Question about NetGear WNDR3400 N600 Wireless Dual Band Router (WNDR3400100NAS)

1 Answer

I am trying to add a Netgear N600 Wireless Dual Band Router to my cable modem so I can use Wifi in my house. This is just a home, not a business. No IT people here. In the setup, the Netgear reads my IP address as static, which is is not. Home systems all have dynamically issued IP address. There is no way to go forward. Asa work around, the installation software does asks me for the modem MAC address, which I supply, but it still won't let me install and connect the router. So I am dead in the water. I have tried to power off my cable modem to allow things to clear out of the modem memory, but that didn't work either. I've been reading on-line that you turn everything off and then power up the modem, then the router and then the PC in hopes of tricking the router to "see" the dynamic IP address. Any suggestions? I am not the only one experiencing this problem.

Are you sure the PC is dynamically configured for the IP?

I understand that you are facing trouble with the setup of the router WNDR3400 with your cable modem. I would suggest you to follow the below steps to reset and reconfigure the router:

With the help of a paper clip, press the reset button on the back of the router for 20 seconds (please refer to the label on the bottom of the router for reset button location). Release the reset button after 20 seconds and turn off the router. Turn the router on after few seconds.

1. Connect an Ethernet cable from the modem to the WAN port of the router (isolated port).

2. Connect the computer to the router using any one of the 4 available ports. Please make sure that there is no direct connection between the modem and the computer (either using Ethernet cable or USB cable).

3. Power off the modem and the router after making the connections.

4. Power on the modem and wait for the lights to come on and then power on the router.

1. Open a web browser like Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox or Safari.

2. Access the router's GUI by typing or

3. When prompted for Username and Password, please enter 'admin' for the Username and 'password' for Password.

4. Click on 'Basic settings' from the left menu and select 'Use Computers MAC Address' from 'router MAC Address' section.

5. Click Apply.

6. Once it updates the settings then power off the modem and the router. Power on the modem and wait for the lights, then power on the router.

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue.

I had this exact problem too! Here's how I fixed it.

    1) Follow Anand's instructions here on connecting ethernet cables from modem to router, and from router to computer. Thanks Anand!

    2) Also as Anand said, go to and enter 'admin' and 'password' as your username and password. Safari didn't want to display this page for me, but Firefox had no problem.

    3) Go to Setup -> Basic Settings in the left side menu.

    4) Under "Internet IP Address" select "Get Dynamically from ISP". For me, use static IP was the default setting.

    5) Under "Domain Name Server (DNS) Address", select "Get Automatically from ISP".

Click apply, and then try opening a webpage. I didn't need to change the MAC Address setting from "use default address", and I didn't need to restart the router again. Hope this works for you too!

Cant connect my presario r3000 to netgear n600 router

First unplug the power cable from your modem. Then press and hold the power button of your modem for at least 1 minute. Then plug in the the power cable and wait until all the lights become stable. Then you can try to go online to check.

If after this step you will not be able to go online then contact with your ISP provider.

What are the numbers on my netgear n600 dual band gigabit router?

The numbers are the LAN ports on the router. When a number is turned on, it indicates a LAN device (computer) is connected to the router and is active.
If a device is connected to the router and that LAN port number is not turned on then either the LAN cable is faulty or the LAN card in that computer is faulty or LAN driver is not installed.

Router is set up but no WIFI on computer!

Try unplugging your cable or DSL modem, waiting 15 seconds and plugging it back in. Modems can only talk to one MAC address at a time, and if it has a pc, or old wireless routers MAC address stored, it won't talk to the new wireless router.
