You can reset the router by holding down the reset button and hold for 5 to 8 seconds. then manually configure the pc's ip address to the same scheme.

Example

Router probably is 192.168.1.1

then set the PC to 192.168.1.5

then the two can comunicate. Then type the routers ip address in your web broser and press enter, this should log you in to the router.

Iam trying to access with my friends laptop onto my homecomputers dlink router so as to find out what my password is aS IVE FORGOTTEN IT

You need to use a hardwired connection, or a computer that's already got access to it.

Try going to http://192.168.1.1 - if you are presented with a login screen, that's the router. Try Admin and Admin.

If the above IP address does not work, try http://192.168.0.1

Once you are logged into the router, you should be able to go to "Wireless - Wireless Security", and then read the password.

Laptop cannot aquire network address from wireless router

If you connect the computer to the router , it works.
That means the wired connection is OK.
Open the set up page of the router check the wireless settings of the router.
I think your network is secured and you are not typing the correct network key.
just open the router set up and check the wireless settings .
Make sure that the DHCP server on the router is enabled

go to your adapter settings for the notebook that does not work and clear off your network connection try to re-discover your router, and enter the same code you used to log in with the notebook that works. Sounds like you have an IP from the router, but no access.

Limited or no connectivity to the internet. my setup: the telephone port is approx 30m from where i need internet access. Originally I had a dlink wireless router set up but was connected via cable, now...

On which port of the D-link router did you plug the WRT160N router?

Do this setup.

Disconnect the WRT160N from D-link.

Connect a computer to port 1 of the WRT160N. Access the setup page by typing 192.168.1.1 on the address bar. you may need to type in the username and password for WRT160N. on the setup page Change the LAN IP address from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.2.1. save the settings.

Connect a cable from port 1,2,3 or 4 of the D-link router to the Internet port of the WRT160N. turn off everything then turn them on starting from cable modem>D-link >WRT160N then computer.

You should be able to access the internet.
