Did you hear any noise when connect hdd?

  • elwa Mar 18, 2011

No noises. The system recognizes a USB mass storage device and I can see the HD in the "Device Manager" but the HD doesn't appear in the to "Disk Management" utlity. Strange is that it says it is a 2 TB disk while it is a 1 TB HD. Seagate message: "Enter the partition on the external drive is not recognized or the external drive has no partition".

If you are lucky and there is no scracthes on hdd disks, you can recover your files but not at home. Go to a recovery data office in your area and they can test your hdd and tell you what to do next. Do not try to recover data with any software because you can damage irrevesible your hdd and lose all your data.

Power to Seagate FreeAgent Drive is Unstable

You might be able to swap the drive to the other portable drive. Or, if you have a slot in your PC, put it in there. If it runs normally, the PS is shot (wouldn't be the first). Either get a new case with PS, or keep it in the PC. You can power it down when you're not using it.

It's also possible the drive is bad. Find the HDD diagnostic tool in your OS and check it out.

You could try to use file recovery tools like File Scavenger or similar. If at fall moment Hard Drive was ON, then there is bigger chance that information will be unrecoverable because of damage of Hard Drive disc surface. If data is very important like work data (MS Office files and so on) I would suggest to hand this item to local data recovery center. It might be costly but if data is essential then no doubt it is worth to try.

More you try to use, you'll have less chance to recover the data. Try consult with seagate service center to fix the drive first before send it to data recovery company.

that's easy: 1.
my computer-right click format then when if formated -right click again then format and select FAT32
2. to have one partition download a program (partition magic or acronis in the trial mode and resize the partitions to be just one).

Turn off your computer and then plug in the FreeAgent external drive. Then try turning your computer on, it should read.  If it doesn't I would go to the Seagate website for troubleshooting.
