I have a MS 7173 re-installed with WinXP newest version and updates. After installation of all modules and updates I do not see a realtek AC97 device or something like this and no wrong entry in the hardware list. I installed all drivers from the MSI web site. After reboot no audio device available!! Whats to do??

Is there an Audio device of anykind in the device manager? If there is right click on it and remove/uninstall it. Reboot > redetection should take place and ask for driver > if you have the correct driver it should work.

Also if you are using the onboard sound make sure it is enabled in the BIOS by pressing DEL when computer is first started > onboard peripherals.

If you are using an add-on card make sure the onboard is disabled.

You need to find the web site of the motherboard manufacture and download the audio device drivers for your motherboard. If you have the CD that came with the motherboard you will find them there.

Good luck

I don't think Gigabyte did any drivers for this motherboard for windows 7. You could try the generic divers on the realtek site.
www.realtek.com/downloads
Then select the AC97 codes the version 7.094 is the win 7 one. It should work.

My intel P4 computer lost audio and ethernet controller drives. how can i download them? i lost my drivers and utilities software.

you will need to find out what audo/ethernet card you are using before you can download drivers. There are many ways to do this but one of the easiest is to run everest home, you can find it here: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4181.html

after finding the name of your audio card and LAN card go to google and type the following for both: (operating system) (device) drivers download

example for winxp: a common audio card is the realtek ac97 so we would google:

winxp realtek ac97 drivers download

Burn a XP Installation CD/DVD and use the XP CD Key of your recovery Version. Note that you have a OEM Product so it could be that you need special drivers for your hardware that were integrated in your recovery installation.

Here is the support page of your System: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/product?lc=en&dlc=de&cc=ch&lang=de&product=363424&

Here you have the mainboard specification if you have to search for newest chipset drivers:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=bph07845&lc=en&dlc=de&cc=ch&lang=de&product=363424

You can see there most parts of you Hardware:

Chipset:
Northbridge: 845GL
Southbridge: ICH4

Graphiccard: Intel Extrem Graphics
Is integrated in the Northbridge.

For this devices you can find drivers here: http://pixel01.cps.intel.com/support/chipsets/sb/CS-009236.htm

Soundcard: Is a Realtek AC97 derivat called Realtek ALC202A. You can find the newest drivers for this device here: http://www.realtek.com/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=23&PFid=23&Level=4&Conn=3&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false

Network interface controller: Realtek RTL8100

Heres the driver: http://www.realtek.com/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=14&PFid=6&Level=5&Conn=4&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false

Just for clarification, if you lost your XP CD Key theres no way to install XP on your System legaly. You need to buy a new Windows XP licence!

Avance ac'97 audio for via audio controler

You should be able to use the AC97 codecs available from Realtek for your device. There is a choice of two - standard AC97 or AC97 HD (both are available from the link provided), one of these should be compatible.

Post your results here, especially if you encounter a problem installing the drivers or if this doesn't fix your problem.

Realtek AC'97 driver

Before installing the AC97 software drivers, open System than click the Hardware tab than click Device manager. Scroll down to Sound, video & game controllers. Do you see a yellow ! point? If so than your drivers do need to be reinstalled. I could send you to Asus's site but they are a bit out dated so go here for updated drivers. The first one listed under Description will do just fine.
http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=14&PFid=23&Level=4&Conn=3&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false
When you open the sound, video & game controller find AC97 & uninstall by right clicking on AC97 & uninstall. Only the AC97, leave the rest alone. Restart the PC than install the new drivers that you saved to your hard drive.
Check driver installed by opening controll panel than open Sound & Audio Device icon. Under Audio tab Realtek AC97 should be listed than click the Voice tab & the same should be listed.
Test both Audio & Mic functions. If either fail your intergrated controller could be defective. Lets hope everything works fine.
