I need to remove the stem from my Timex indiglo so that I can take out the inner workings and put into a new case because crystal has broken and I have the same watch where the inner workings are broken so I want to swap them out.

Hello,

Thank you for using fixya.com

Looking at the movement side of the watch with a loupe, look at the area where the winding stem comes through the case and into the movement. If you zoom out a bit and look about the surface of the movement "USUALLY" in a quartz movement you will see an arrow pointing to a brass or polished steel button. This button is normally perpendicular to the stem axis. Sometimes however it could be a screw. You need to depress the button with a plastic stick while gently pulling on the stem. For a screw obviously unscrew but only enough to remove the stem NO MORE one or two turns are sufficient. Once the stem is removed you can remove any case attachments and remove the movement and then determine how to remove the hands and dial.

I hope this helps.

Usually removing the stem from watches differ from watch to watch and model to model. But basically the process involves lifting up a lever from the engine. This lever is osoally what holds the stem in place and there is no particular way to describe it.
Simply examine the engine critically to identify the lever to be lifted. But be careful to identify the correct lever as lifting up the wrong lever could destroy the watch.
Best thing to do is to refer to an expert so as to avoid unforetold damage as often times some watches have more than the stem holding the engine in place.
Hope this solution has been helpful?

If you have the stem and crown take it to a watchmaker. If not it is cheaper to buy a new watch

How to remove stem on timex indiglo WR 30M ?

Insane as it seems, apparently the Indiglo wr30m watch stem does NOT have either a set screw or a release button. No vice needed though, just good fingernails. Pull it out one click to the 'set time' position and pull it out some more and it comes out.

Hi i need to put back the back plate of my timex watch but is is stubornly refusing to be back on. What can I do? Procedure please? Jack

mcdevito75 here, This can be a problem, the tolerances between the back cover and case of the watch is in MM. Believe it or not here"s a trick you can try, place the cover only in the frig. for a 1/2 hour, the cold frig. may and should shrink the back cover just enough to fit back onto the caseing. Also make sure you have any cutouts or indentations on the back cover matching anything on the case of the watch, one thing is the cutout for the winding stem of the watch, there should be a cutout on the back cover for the stem of the watch.

Hello, I just bought a Timex Acqua with Indiglo

Depending on when you bought your Timex, you shouldn"t need a battery just yet, your Timex came with a good battery. Look under the stem (winder) for a small piece of plastic that is not allowing the stem to go all the way down, remove that piece of plastic and push the stem down and your Timex will start. Or if your Timex has buttons, look for a tab of plastic on the back cover, this tab of plastic is keeping the battery from (ground) a complete circuit remove this tab of plastic to start your Timex. Changeing the battery while fairly easy, you"d need jewelers screwdrivers and of course the new battery, Best Bet, look for a small watch repair shop in your area for the battery change.

Can't put (back) back on my timex indiglo

I used to work with jewelry. !!BEWARE!!
This method is for face crystals that are completely FLAT! Any convex crystal will shatter without proper tools!!!
Any method of putting the watch cover back with the watch remotely near water/moisture is a mistake. The watch will rust sooner or later.
So if you don't want to pay a jeweler five dollars to put it back on, this is what I did to my sister's watch cover when I could not snap it back.
I took my cushy 1/4 inch mousepad to a vise. You may not have a vise. If you don't, stop reading now and take the watch to a jeweler --one who replaces batteries.
Inside the vise jaws, I used a 5 inch square piece of wood, then my cushy mousepad, then the watch facing the pad, then the back in the right place for restoring.
!!!!NOTE: Not having the back in the right place will smash the stem and damage can/will result!!!
To push the back on, I picked a 12 point socket out of my socket set that was the same DIAMETER as the watch back and placed it CENTERED behind the back.
Recapping, inside vise:
  • small board
  • cushy mousepad (to avoid scarring and crystal breakage
  • watch crystal facing mousepad
  • watch back in correct position
  • ratchet socket the same diameter as watch back centered behind cover
Slowly I positioned all these items with minimal pressure. Then when I was sure that I was ready (and prepared to hear the crystal break) I put as little pressure closing the vise that I could. The I heard a snap, and to my relief, it was the back going in!

I DO NOT RECOMMEND THAT YOU DO WHAT I DID. People with broken watch crystals become very IRATE when "all it needed was a battery"!

A screw clamp would also give adequate pressure. Any unsupported direct pressure over the crystal will shatter it!

Hope this helped.
Good luck!!!!

Timex indiglo. Indiglo feature died.

The indiglo technology is time limited (it dims over the years with use) and cannot be repaired - have you had the watch a long time? if so, I'm afraid it's time to get a new one. Sorry!

Timex Expedition, beeps very quietly and indiglo doesn't work.

To clarify... Replace the cover with the arrow on the back pointing directly at the stem. The Indiglo backlight, alarms and chimes should all work when the back cover is in this position.
