Question about Reddy Heater Propane/LP Infra-Red Tank Top Heater - 10/12/15,000 Btu

1 Answer

I purchased a single burner tank top heater from Menards. Every attempt to light it resulted in a loud roar so I exchanged it. The replacement has functioned properly untill recently and now has a loud intermitent roar. Although the tank still had some fuel, I replaced it with a full fuel tank. Now it roars when I turn the control nob to the low position. What is the problem. ????????????

Turn the LP Tank Valve OFF and disconnect the heater from the tank. Wait 5 minutes and reconnect the heater to the tank. Turn the tank valve ON VERY, VERY SLOWLY (slow motion slow). Nor light the heater and turn it to high. Allow it to burn on high for several minutes, before tuning it to low. If this solved the problem, the OPD tank valve was shooting to much pressure to the heater regulator. Turning it on slowly, helps alleviate that problem.

Full tank, igniter clicks, i hear the flam come on but it wont light. What to do?

I am not sure which flame you hear light. The pilot light flame or the burner flame? In any event, the burner and the pilot assembly need to be cleaned. Insects love to build nest in these types of heaters, when they're not in use. When that happens, the pilot and/or the burner get's clogged.

A shop vac with a hose and brush attachment work well in cleaning the heater parts. Canned compressed air with a straw nozzle (like you clean your computer with) does well in blowing out the pilot tip and around the entire pilot assembly.

Be sure to turn the gas tank valve OFF and disconnect the hose and remove the tank, before attempting to clean the unit. When you replace the tank and reconnect the hose, be sure to open the gas tank valve VERY, VERY SLOWLY (Slow motion slow).

Hope this helps you solve the problem. Thanks for choosing FixYa.

I have an endless summer 92000 table top propane heater. Lights fine, but the flame does not burn at the edge of the burner. Instead, it only burns in the very center of the burner... much like a Bunsen...

Actually, it's a gas pressure issue. But, it's fairly easy to solve. First, you need to be sure that your LP Tank has a sufficient amount of gas. If it does, turn the propane tank valve OFF. Disconnect the hose from the tank and wait 5 minutes. Then reconnect the hose to the tank and turn the valve ON VERY, VERY SLOWLY (Slow motion, slow). Once the valve is fully open, light the burner as you normally do and turn the burner flames to HIGH. Has the burner flame returned to normal? If so, you solved the problem. Just remember to always turn the tank valve ON very, very slowly.

If it didn't solve the problem, you will need to replace the heater's hose/regulator assembly. Generally, i's the same type that a gas grill uses. So, it won't be hard to find one.

Hope this helped to troubleshoot and solve your problem. Please let me know.

I get loud air sound and the back glows red

Had the same problem. The rivets that hold the outer ring to the inner ring on mine fell apart, allowing a little separation, that allowed more air into the mixture. Replaced the rivets with screws and lock nuts. The heater is back in service. Mine was a double burner, first I had trouble with just one side, then the other. I was thrilled when this worked.

heater leaking or sounding like air leak is a probable pine hole or worse yet warped and cracked heat exchanger.....i would suggest solving leak first then addressing the no ignition problem ....if exchanger is damaged and must be replaced it is a big expense and might be better to replace whole unit depending on how old unit is......removing and replacing exchanger would be about 1/2 cost of new heater. check exchanger with pump on and under pressure......remove front cover, with gas valve off !!!!! a must so you don't lose any hair if it were to try and llight.....
use a flash light and try to see if water is dripping or worse yet flowing on to heatrer burner tray.....if so exchanger is most likely gone.....if you do see water running, you then must disaasemble top of jacket till exchanger is exposed and can bw thoroughly inspected to determine what exactly is leaking........intake manifold can be replaced and would be a less expensive repair.....if cracked....your description sound like the exchanger though......parst are readily available from distributor or retailers.

Gas grill

Probably 1 of 3 things:
Check your LP tank valve at an LP filling station. Make sure both valve and tank are in working order.
Next check for webs or cocoons up around where knob valves go into burners. You may have to remove burners to see into back of valves. Then swab orifice holes with a torch tip cleaner.
Third, a Menards , LP outfitter/station, or grill shop should have a universal replacement rubber gas line and "regulator"(possibly plugged or stuck shut). Sometimes you end up with cheap/bad regulator out of the factory.
Good luck and hope one these helps or does the trick.

Tank-top propane unit won't stay lit

I had to replace the regulator. If you have a propane appliance shop near you, you can probably just get the nipple that goes into the bottle. It's aboit 3/16" diameter, 3/4" long and may have a 6 sided end up inside the screw on cap of the regulator.

Loud and hot

The first thing to check is the orafice where the gas enters the burner. There should be a small hole in the tip where it enters the burner tubing. If this tip has come off or if the hole (manufacturing defect) has become enlarged. Then the gas flow will be too high.

Alternately the pressure regulator which attaches to your tank may have a damaged to stuck internal mechanism. This will cause too much gas to flow which can cause the issues that you describe. This can only be solved by replacing the regulator and hose assembly.

Inefficient (big, yellow flame) on wall propane heater, using up propane too fast

A clue to what could be wrong is that you mentioned it took 10 minutes for the pilot to go out. It could be your gas valve. Get a technician in to check your gas pressure both before the gas valve and after. Have them check it as the water heater is running.
