Sometimes cameras have 4 x settings (depending on model)
1. ON
2. Red Eye Reduction
3. Fill/Backlight
4. Auto

Choose AUTO for flash to fire ONLY WHEN NEEDED
Choose ON to flash EVERY photo.

No. There is no way until you cit the connection from internal side. Its a short and thats why its flashing continuously. Visit service center for repairing the problem.

How do I disable the pop-up flash on Nikon D5000? Thanks

As long as jog dial is set to M or manual, the flash will not pop up automatically. Be reminded though because you have to set everything manually. If you want the auto settings without the flash, set the jog dial to the icon that looks like a lightning with stop/ no sign

My camera doesnt' work indoors. i try to take a picture and it doesnt' take when I'm in AUTO mode. However, when I'm in LANDSCAPE mode the pic will take. it seems like the flash isn't active in AUTO...

You must have a software glitch because the flash is supposed to be in the auto mode when the selector is in auto, unless you manually turn the flash off and the flash should go back to auto every time the camera is turned off and back on. Here's a work around. Turn the dial to indoor and use the flash button on the ring to set the flash to auto. In the indoor setting you can set the flash to on, off, or auto.

The flash will not stay down.

is it set in auto mode? the flash will automatically pop up when it thinks it required in auto mode. there is an 'auto no flash' mode that you can change it to. on the dial it looks like a lightening bold with a cross through it.

Flash will not stay set

This happens when there is not enough juice on the battery. Your battery may not be able to hold enough capacity anymore. Try another battery. Tip: Do you know that the battery of this camera is exactly the same as the battery of some old model nokia? (6150,8510, etc)

Built-In Speedlight (Flash) will not retract

I haven't heard of this problem but compliments of velocityreviews I came up with this. Follow the instructions below to attach an external Speedlight. Refer to your Speedlight manual for detailed instructions regarding Speedlight operation. 1 Make sure that both the camera and the external Speedlight are turned off. 2 Attach the Speedlight to the camera accessory shoe. 3 Turn both the camera and the Speedlight on. 4 Set the external Speedlight zoom head to an angle wider than 28 mm. If you are using a Speedlight with Auto Power Zoom, set the zoom head angle manually. The COOLPIX5700 does not support power zoom. 5 Set the external Speedlight flash mode to TTL. At this setting, the amount of light produced by the external Speedlight is measured by the camera?s photocell, and the flash shooting range adjusted automatically to ensure optimal exposure. D-TTL flash control (available with the SB-80DX, SB-50DX and SB-28DX) is not supported. 6 Take the picture If the Speedlight Options: Speedlight Control option in the SET-UP menu is set to Auto, only the external Speedlight will fire. If this option is set to Int & Ext Active then the external Speedlight and the builtin Speedlight will fire at the same time. The COOLPIX5700 does not support AF-assist illumination, or red-eye reduction using the red-eye reduction lamp on the external Speedlight. At a setting of STBY (standby), the Speedlight will turn on automatically whenever the camera turns on but will not turn off automatically when the camera turns off. Exact functionality varies with the Speedlight in use. Refer to your Speedlight manual for details. I hope it's of some help BMW

Built-in flash and an external flash simultaneously

Yes, please see the following table: Optional Flash Flash Control Mode Capacity FL-50 TTL Auto (Super FP flash)/ TTL Auto/ Auto/ Manual/ Manual (Super FP flash) The FL-50 flash can be connected with the E-300 camera through flash power grip: FP-1 and flash cable: FL-CB05. FL-40 Auto/ Manual The external flash cannot be used with the built-in flash. * Only Auto and Manual mode can be set in the concurrent use of FL-40 and the built-in flash. (For their specification design, E-300 and FL-40 can not communicate in TTL Auto and R-TTL Auto modes.) FL-36 TTL Auto (Super FP flash)/ TTL Auto/ Auto/ Manual/ Manual (Super FP flash) The external flash can be used with the built-in flash.
