Unfortunately several calls to HP have not solved this problem. I am well passed the troubleshoot options. I think that HP need to look at these issues as my investigations show that this is a very common problem. I certainly will not be purchasing HP in the future.

Check whether the Digital Imaging Monitor is running .

If yes, good.

Now, please open HP Solution Center and setup the destination list .

Double click >> HP Solution Center >> settings >> scan settings and preferences >> scan to .. setup >>
Add all the entries from " available scan destinations " to "front panel destination list " >> click >> ok .
Now, try to scan from the front panel of the All-in-One .

SOURCE: How to scan using a hp officejet 6500?

Hello,

Support overview for the HP Officejet 6500:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/product?product=3795314&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&lang=en&cc=us

See the user guide from page 48 (=44) for how to scan:
http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01669504.pdf

To use the scan features, your device and computer must be connected and turned on.
The printer software must also be installed and running on your computer prior to
scanning. To verify that the printer software is running on a computer running Windows,
look for the device icon in the system tray at the lower-right side of the screen, near the
clock. To verify this on a computer using Mac OS X, open the HP Device Manager, and
click Scan Picture. If a scanner is available, it will launch the HP ScanPro application. If
it is not available, a message appears to let you know that a scanner was not found.

Select Software & Driver Downloads in the support overview and next enter your operating system to get to the required software.

Can't scan- Refer to device documentation to

Try using widows paint. Look in windows accessories off the start program menu. If you open windows paint, look for open file from "Scanner or Camera". Most likely you can get the scanner to work again in Vista. Otherwise...try Vuescan scanner software. I think you can get a free trial period online and it should also work. You'll have to pay for that if you like it.

How do I scan a picture to e-mail? new officejet 6500

On the printer itself it says no scan option because there is no option attached from the solution center.

That means the mapping between the scanner and the software on the computer does not exist which results in :-

you will be able to scan from the solution center on the computer but not from the printer itself.

To solve this problem please follow the following document according to your window OS.

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01798218&cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&product=3418705

You must set up a list of potential scan destinations in order to start scans from the printer.
To do that please follow the
( Solution two: Set up the destination list )

In the Document link Provided.

I am sure if you follow this document it will work.

Once you Update the device with the list of scan options. you will be able to see the scan to e-mail option on the printer.

( Note :- remember to send through the scan to e-mail option directly. You must have Microsoft outlook or outlook express configured on the computer Else it will not work. )

Cannot use scan...when I put a document in the tray and press "start scan" it says " no scan options" and "refer to device documentation" what to do?

You need to have it connected to a computer with the scan software running. The scan options are in the computer. It tells what type of document to scan, how to save it, JPG, PDF, etc. and where to send the scanned image.
