I haven't gotten an answer yet on if there is a way to test the ignitor and I am hesitant to spend the money on one without being sure. It would seem that the gas should still flow if the ignitor was bad, unless there was some sort of safety cut off or something (which is why I was asking). Please let me know if you find out anything...thanks.

More than likely you have a bad oven ignitor. It's not uncommon that they need repalced, they do go bad.

Thanks for the response. Is there a way to test or be sure? Ohm meter reading or something? Also, is there some sort of safety on the oven that prevents the gas from flowing if the ignitor is bad? At $100, just hate to order a new one unless I'm 100% sure.

    Thanks,

I have the same problem. Oven does not work, all other things work fine. Were you able to solve your problem?

  • Tony Wisinski Mar 23, 2011

Yes you should have continuity through the ignitor. If it's bad it will not have continuity. The main oven gas valve will not open to allow gas to flow if the ignitor is open.

I Had the same issue... Bought a $75 dollar igniter and still no Oven... Turned out to be the Saftey Valve...BEFORE ANYONE INVESTS IN AN IGNITER. TEST CONTINUITY ON THE SAFTEY VALVE. Make sure you unplug the stove first and remove the wires from the saftey valve. Inside it there is a wire wrapped around a bar that must open when the wire heats. (One for each side) The Broiler and the Oven lugs should have continuity...(a dead short) If you Have continuity and 120V AC from the control panel wires (Yellow for oven and Blue for Broil) Its just the igniter... Saftey valve is part # WB19K14 Cheapest from Seneca River Trading out of NY... $80 plus shipping

GE Profile gas range - Model Number removed by previous owners. Black slide in range with warming drawer - 5-10 years old. Digital oven controls on left side Broil and Bake functions are reversed. When...

Unplug the range.
I would open the control console and locate the BAKE/BROIL terminals on the Oven control. I would reverse the wires, plug the range in and try again.
Sounds to me like someone has changed out a part and wired it wrong.

JBP26 Oven broil and bake do not work and the oven light is flash

If you have 240Volts to the range and BOTH elements don't work, it sounds like the L2 OUT relay on the oven control is bad. Bake and Broil share this line and this problem is not un-common. Make sure you have proper incoming voltage first. Turn breaker off and back on to make sure both poles are set.
