Question about Black & Decker CHV9600 Handheld Vacuum

1 Answer

How do I replace the battery in a Black & Decker Dustbuster CHV 9600? I've detected some clips on the bottom in the back of the unit that would seem to release the base to get access; however, they appear to be fixed with a plate that prevents their release.

You can read, download, and/or print the manual from the following site. Instructions for changing the battery are on page 2.

Black & Decker 9.6 V Dust Buster --- how do you remove (for replacing) the rechargeable battery.

Response by small6363 was right on target. All the reviews and comments I had read up to this point for my Dustbuster CHV9600 indicated the battery could not be replaced. I am so glad this link was here.I have ordered the part and will follow the other posters' cautions about reassembling the product. I could not be happier as I could not find the model anymore and it is my favorite purple color. Thanks again small6363. You are a life saver.

Do I need to replace the battery as my dustbuster does not seem to have a lot of power and therefore does not pick up as it used to?

Yes the battery is most probably the problem. you can check is the voltage of the fully charge battery is same as what is stated on it, if not you definitely need a new battery

How do I remove the battery in a Dustbuster chv1400 for replacement? I have removed the two screws and removed the cover, but I'm unable to figure out the retaining clips for the battery. Of course I don't...

That model looks similar to my DB200. Instead of the screws, the underside has a latch/panel that you remove. Place a screwdriver in the two slot-like holes that face each other (one at a time) and the 'door' should pop out. Mine was a little stiff and I broke one of the retainers inside. Shouldn't be a problem. Sourcing a replacement battery 'pack' is what I'm doing now.
Good luck!

If you can provide a model number, I can check availability of the switch and can either order it for you, or supply the B&D part number and you can order it from most local vacuum shops in your area or from Black & Decker direct online: http://www.blackanddeckerservicenet.com/servicenet_home.aspx?AspxAutoDetectCookieSupport=1

Leave it in the charger for at least 7 hours and then try and see if it works on a full performance time of roughly 3 minutes.

If it seems to be taking a charge, then the charger and the battries are ok and the problem is with the indicator light. So if it is working normally, I wouldn't worry about that light.
