Question about Computers & Internet
Have a similar problem with a friend's NV59C.Removed all pheriphrials, including HD, still shuts down during start up,Switched HD, checked out OK in my laptop. Possibilities are 1.Bad startingswitch (no, they are not simple on/off buttons) 2. Bad/defective reset switch,if separate from start switch. 3.Short to ground somewhere in system, that'swhy you remove ALL non-onboard components when testing. 4.Bad motherboard.Overheating might have caused heat sink paste to crystallize separating CPUfrom sink. Condenser might be leaking or blown, so improper voltage goes toCPU, which could be fried, etc. Long story short, how much is your computerworth to justify $150 service fee, just to be told it is (or is not) reparable?

Sounds like a severe hardware problem concerning your laptop's hard drive. I suggest you contact Gateway customer service to check on your warranty - your laptop is, simply put, broken. The best approach to repairing it is not to fix it yourself in this case.
