Question about Computers & Internet

Gateway MS2274 Laptop has a black screen and not booting. The power indicator comes on and all you hear is the fan and soon afterward will shut off; no hard drive LED. Tried removing the battery and plugged directly into ACD adapter and getting the same results. When battery inserted and AC adapter only the charging LED will appear along with power indicator and nothing else. As mentioned, you only hear the fan and after a few seconds will shut completely down.

Have a similar problem with a friend's NV59C.Removed all pheriphrials, including HD, still shuts down during start up,Switched HD, checked out OK in my laptop. Possibilities are 1.Bad startingswitch (no, they are not simple on/off buttons) 2. Bad/defective reset switch,if separate from start switch. 3.Short to ground somewhere in system, that'swhy you remove ALL non-onboard components when testing. 4.Bad motherboard.Overheating might have caused heat sink paste to crystallize separating CPUfrom sink. Condenser might be leaking or blown, so improper voltage goes toCPU, which could be fried, etc. Long story short, how much is your computerworth to justify $150 service fee, just to be told it is (or is not) reparable?

Sounds like a severe hardware problem concerning your laptop's hard drive. I suggest you contact Gateway customer service to check on your warranty - your laptop is, simply put, broken. The best approach to repairing it is not to fix it yourself in this case.

What would make my laptop come on but go back off

You operating system is corrupted. Your computer is fine. Open it in "Safe Mode" using a function key, "F" something. (You will have to look it up for e Gateway as they are different for different mfrs.) Select "Safe Mode with Networking." The computer should boot up for you, but the screen will be different. At START type in: "cmd" a new (backdoor) window will pop up. type in "chkdsk/f" exactly where the cursor lands you. Without quotation marks, of course. Let Microsoft repair the program for you as you wait. Be patient, it takes some time. Reboot afterwards and your PC should behave as normal.

Starts with black screen and does not boot up

Dear Cesar,

In order to help you better, we need more information regarding the problem you have with your laptop. Please, tell us:

1) Brand and model of your laptop.
2) What is its operating system (Windows, Linux, Android, ChromeOS, OS X, etc)
2) When you connect the power adapter to your laptop, does the power indicator LED lights up?
3) If you press its power button and put your ear close to the laptop, can you hear both the fan and the hard disk spinning?
4) The black screen at the start you mention, is it totally black or there is a small white cursor blinking at the top of the screen?

Please, send us your answers as soon as possible so we can look for a solution to your problem.

Gateway nv ms2274 turns on, no fan, no screen booting up blue led on and battery on - any ideas?

If your laptop appears to boot up and the hard disk LED flashes, then the problem is probably a back light fault. This can be a faulty inverter or a faulty CCFL lamp. Please click on this link and follow my instructions to identify the fault and possible fix :-

My computer continues to shut-down for no apparent reason while booting up. It will get to bios then abruptly shutdown. Please Help!!

Maybe something is defective from the factory? Can you bring it back and exchange it for another? Is it a desktop or a laptop? If it's a desktop, maybe remove a side panel and aim a small fan at the inside. Do you know how to start up your computer in safe mode? Maybe try starting it in safe mode and see if you can do a system restore, do you know what that is and how to do it? Google will explain it to you, but I'd suggest those steps.

My gateway laptop keeps shutting down. it is brand new

How long have you had it on. If you are not venting the heat out away from the processor, it will shut down to protect it. I suggest either take a small fan and blowing towards the computer. Or they make a chill pads for laptops about thrity dollars.

Laptop Shuts down to black screen without warning.

it may be over heating !!
turn it on and run it till you hear the fan turn on, then check if there is much air coming out of it.
if not use a vacuum to **** air throw it as you blow hard into the slot that the air should come out of

Gateway laptop screen is black?

This could have several causes, including malware installed on your system, but is frequently the result of some kind of hardware driver conflict. Have you recently installed any new hardware or software to your system? If so, disconnect it and try again.
The black screen is an indication that the windows os is not booting onto the system. If you have the recovery console installed, or have the cds, you can run the recovery console to troubleshoot or repair your installation of windows. This procedure is different for xp or vista, so we need to know what os you're on, as well as any error messages you see when it fails to boot.
To begin with, try tapping F8 as it boots up and see it you can get into the OS options screen, then choose Last Known good configuration to boot windows.
Here's a great article to help you troubleshoot the situation, then let us know how it goes and what comes up..

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread.
If I've managed to answer your question or solve a problem, please take just a moment to rate this post....thanks!
