Google Knoppix 6.1 and download it,
burn it to a cd and put in your cd rom drive.
Boot from cd rom drive into the linux cd environment
Attach a USB hard drive to the pc and open up the current hard drive from the machine

You should be able to transfer all your documents out without having to put in a password (unless you did full disk encryption)

4 Common Windows Password Mistakes You Should Avoid

As the first safeguard of our computer data, a Windows password security is worthy of a user's attention. But in reality, few users are aware of the significance of a Windows password. Many users set a Windows password that can be easily hacked, like "123456" or "password", for convenience. Some users even forgot Windows password frequently without a password reset disk at hand. The following lists 4 common Windows password mistakes users easily make.

Mistake 1: Set A Weak Windows Password Like "123456"

When creating a Windows password, you should avoid the passwords like"123456", "password", "abc123", etc, which are too common and weak to be easily recognized, though it seems to difficult for you to reset Windows password . According to an analysis survey, the most popular passwords among nearly 400,000 exposed by the Gawker hack were "123456", with more than 3,000 people had it as a password. If you owned a Windows password like that, stop using them now. Meanwhile, it is better not use only letters or numbers which means great significance to you, like your birthday or names.

There are 2 key factors for a strong Windows password: length and complexity. An ideal password is regarded to be at least 8 characters long and composed of letters, punctuation, symbols, and numbers; avoid personal information, repetition, sequences, and dictionary words. But don't make it too complicated for your memory. Otherwise it happens to forget Windows password easily. A strong Windows password should be easy for you to remember but hard to hack.

Mistake 2: Always Use Same Windows Password

According to PC World, 75 percents of people had the same password for their email accounts and social networking sites. Have you also employ the password with other accounts for avoiding to lost Windows password?

Today we live in a password-drive world which make us have to remember credit card passwords, bank accounts, etc. Of course, it is an effective way to use the same password for getting out of the trouble with many different passwords. But the problem is that if it's compromised and someone finds it, the rest of your identity is at risk. So it is better not to use the same password for all your accounts, at least for your Windows accounts and other important accounts.

Mistake 3: Seldom Change Wind
ows Password

For many users, they may never remember to change Windows password unless they forgot Windows password. No matter how strong a password is, it may get hacked if the user doesn't change it all the time. Most computer experts and online security professionals recommend changing passwords and account login information at least once every three months. How long have you ever changed Windows password? Reset it frequantly and get into the habit of changing your password on regular basis.

Mistake 4: Forgot Windows password Without A Password Reset Disk

With the Windows password reset disk feature, it is no longer a big problem when you forgot Windows password. Computer experts strongly suggest that users create a password reset disk when setting a new password, which they will not lose access to your files and information. But many users in fact ignore the importance of the Windows password reset disk until they forgot or lost. If you haven't create a password reset disk, just start to create one now. You will find everything is still in order though password is gone.

This is the survey which we have collected from Security Community, more info about password management survey, go to its official site.

I forgot my password and when i try to reset it, it keeps saying i need a USB drive but i don't have one can someone help me i have tried everything

There will have been a key made when setting the password and usually it is stored on a usb stick. If you have lost your password, you will have no access to your hdd if hdd password. In that case purchase another hdd and install your OS, drivers and programmes. If windows password, there are various bits of software for sale on the net, none ow which I shall recommend.

I forgot my password how I can download what's up

This question needs clarification. Is "What's up" some kind of social media site? Or are you just saying, "What's up with the fact that I forgot my password and can't download stuff?".

The answer to both of these versions of your question may be:

Usually when someone forgets a password to an online account (facebook, google+, etc.) there is a link to reset your password. Easy.

If you forgot the password to your Macbook Pro then you're probably not going to get your old data back because messing with the "keychain" is not going to work. Apple may have some kind of registrar that you can contact, provided you have the required info, could help you get in but I don't know. You can reset the password though which grants you a fresh start; as if it were brand new.

On a PC there are at least two and sometimes three different places where a password can be set to secure the device; on the BIOS chip, at the Windows (or other operating system) login screen, and sometimes even on the hard drive that the system uses to boot or start-up. There are methods for bypassing each of these but, depending on the make and model of the hardware, results will vary.

BIOS chips used to have a default password set by the manufacturer. It's not so easy any more and you'll have to look up your specific BIOS to find hacks.

Windows passwords can often be bypassed by booting your machine with a bootable thumb drive or live CD/DVD. These are entire Linux operating systems on a usb drive or cd/dvd and once the machine has loaded Linux you can use it's file management software to access many of the files stored on the hard drive by MS Windows.

Lastly, passwords that are set on the hdd itself can sometimes be bypassed by tricking the hardware into thinking that the correct password has been provided. Usually this would be done by using a jumper wire (some have used a paperclip) to "jump over" the authentication section on the PCB of the HDD. This doesn't work on drives that actually encrypt the data using the password as a key and it's much more complicated than it sounds since you have to boot the pc with the electronics inside the HDD exposed and time the jump just perfectly. One wrong move could kill your hard drive.

Obviously, using a password that you won't forget is the best way to avoid losing all your stuff.

I forgot my xbox live passcode on Xbox

I forgot mine not too long ago and went through the system reset options for forgotten passwords.
My password is the same as my Microsoft Live (Hotmail) account so if you can remember that it should be the same as your XBOX password.

Else just use the forgotten password options to change it.
This is quite easily resolved.

I forgot my password to unlock my phone, how can i unlock it?

Depending on the type of phone it might not be possible. If it's a smartphone, unlocking it won't be possible. If it's a dumb phone, a hard reset will start you from fresh, but you will lose everything.

Hi when you say hdd password.. do you mean the boot password? if this is the case, then you could try unpluggin the pc, pres and hold the power button for about 10 secs, removing the bois battery, then putting everything back together. This will wipe the bios, and the password.
