Question about HP Compaq nc6000 Notebook

1 Answer

HP Compaq NC6000\r\nWhen I press the power button it seems to start but the only thing I see is numbers going by rapidly in the form of kbytes (524288 KB ok) then it reads 162-system Options not set. Then below that it the config was auto updated it lists total memory then says (CMOS checksuminvalid, default values loaded) and then you can press F1 F2 orF10, but actually you can't because its stuck and thats as far as it gets. Any suggestions? Help Please!

Hi promano67

When you "start" the computer, and the {"Screen"} displays a "Error Message."[CMOS] "error checksum!"

Settings: "Default" loaded.A "checksum error" shows that:

The ("Boot-up Settings "have been changed?"), ie. "Booting OS."

*Boot File 'missing'.

"This can 'occur' if the computer was "shut-down unexpectedly."

Force Shut-down : Power lost; due to 'low battery...'

A ("Power Surge") can cause this 'problem' also.

"What 'happens is that the [CMOS] settings are lost!".
"To fix the problem!"

Do the following:

  • "Restart / Boot the computer.

  • Next, verify if the 'error message' displays?

  • If you are still getting the message?

  • "You will have to "Remove the CMOS battery form the computer!"

  • Shut-down the computer.

  • "Unplug the computer from the {Wall Out-let}.

  • Remove the Lithium battery from the "Notebook."

  • There is a compartment (underneath) the "Notebook that 'store' the CMOS battery."

  • "You will need a {very small Phillips screwdriver}.HP Compaq NC6000\r\nWhen I press the power button - _953.jpg *Remove the CMOS battery for: [30 minutes].

  • !Important: If you have to do it again?

  • Remove the CMOS battery for a {'longer amount of time'}.

  • Replace the "CMOS battery."

  • Next, "Only plug the Power Adapter into the computer.

  • "Do not - replace the "Lithium battery!"

  • Once you have completed these 'task'.

  • "Restart the computer."

  • "Press the [F2] key, to 'enter' the CMOS / BIOS Setup!" _951.jpg

  • Next, 'reset' (all) "Values to the Default Settings."

  • "Press the [F10] key to 'Save' the changes!"

Thank you!" - paul7of9

This 'comment' is for FixYa! So my understanding is; -10 is {subtracted} for "Not Helpful: Solutions!" But! When the "Solution is Very Helpful! = 5 or < LESS!" ? Is this "Correct"!? I have another ?Question? Do a number between a (100 to 1000) people respond quicker, and more to "Solution that do not help!" In comparison to the "Solutons that do?"

HP Compaq nc6000 wont start up

Hi there.
This could be a problem with the system memory.
Take the battery out and the AC power, turn the laptop over and look for a panel with screws on it, unscrew the panel and you should see something like this >>>>>>>>>
a91aeb5.jpeg
Unclip the memory by pushing the little lugs outwards and the memory should pop up ready to be taken out, get a clean dry paintbrush and clean the memory and the slots.
If you have more than one stick of memory just put one of them back and try booting the laptop up.
If one works try the other and see how you get on.
Post back for any additional help

Good luck and thanks for using FixYa!!

My pc doesn't startup up

I had this problem too but I then downloaded the most recent BIOS driver from the HP web site and that seems to be working. At least it now starts and boots correctly but I still have the problem that it tends to hangs up after a short while.

Can sumone plz tell me wen i start my hp compaq nc6000 orange light come n thn shut down it dont boot bt after many time it get started n after sumtime the screen disapear plz tell me whats this problem

if you press on the top right corner near the pg up button on my set, it boots up fine but release the pressure and the screen goes blank but LED and HDD still hums. I got a guy to resolder the Maxim power regulator chip (BGA) on underside of the mobo. Now the set works fine. seems that opening and closing of the lid causes pressure and flex on the mobo and that in turn causes the BGA to "crack a lead". Only problem is locating the guy with the right tools to do it in your area. Got mine fixed on a recent trip to China

Here's how to do it. Read this forum link:

There's a few things you need to do besides removing the CMOS battery. Get a couple of small screwdrivers out, you are going to need them.
