I want to hook my acer 5735 z to my sony trinitron to watch movies from my computer. I don't have a HDMI cable connected (can get one). It's just a seccondary tv used for the xbox 360 (not connected live). Do I use a VGA connector? Looks like my computer only has a VGA port and no SVideo or HDMI ports. What should I do?

Hello,

Let me explain on how to connect the TV to HP notebook.

There are two ways to connect the TV to the notebook. One is with the S-Video cable and another one is HDMI cable. (If you computer had HDMI port)

Connecting notebook and TV with S-video cable:

You need to get the Svideo cable and connect it to the notebook Svideo port to TV Svideo port and press Fn+ F4 to get the notebook display on the TV.

For the first time pressing the Fn+F4 keys, you will get the display on the TV and there will be no display on the Notebook.

If you press the Fn+F4 for second time, you will get display back to the notebook and Tv screen becomes blank.

By pressing the same keys again will show the display on both the screen.

Samething connecting with the HDMI cable, if your computer had HDMI port.

If you won't get the display on the external screen even after following the correct process, then once you need to reinstall the display driver.

If the issue persists, then you have to check with another cable.

Note: No need to install any software on the notebook to connect the TV to the notebook.

Remove Graphics accelerator driver and display driver - one at a time may fix the scrambled video on the TV - - one at a time - - requires restart of computer - several times

Updating Display Drivers may NOT be the answer to the scrambled display on the TV. Sorry this did not fix the problem.

Wooooooo! well, I find that you also need a converter box (VGA to Standard TV) The vga signal is NOT compatible to the TV signal. Converters cost fm $7 to $100. Converter input is VGA from Computer output VGA or RCA or Cable or Coaxial and must be powered. - WALMART, Radio Shack, etc

The FN button should be somewhere on your computer. It says FN and has a box around it. When you press it and another key that something on it inside a box it will activate that command.

I have a sony trinitron and trying to hook up to a dell laptop latitude to watch nexflick.I have a 7 pin s vedio cable to 3 rca.what is the problem that the picture not showing up?

Did you Press the FN (Function Key) + F8 keys on the laptop to display the video on the Sony? Press the FN Key and hold it while you press the F8 Key, this toggles the video into 3 different modes each time you press the keys. The modes are display on laptop only, display on laptop & TV or display on TV only. Also Make sure you have changed the TV's Input Source so that it can know to receive a signal from the laptop. On my setup I go S-Video to S-Video because my tv and laptop have S-video, therefore I tell the TV that the input is S-Video. I installed a VGA to VGA at an Event Center because both the TV and Laptop were using VGA, so I set the Input on the TV to PC since it did not have a VGA Option.

Cant get sound from laptop to tv

Just to verify...you've made sure that your headphones jack will play audio in lets say, some headphones, or a set of computer speakers?

However, your T.V. may not recognize audio when using VGA. I say this because if you look at the hook-ups on your T.V., you notice that most sections contain audio and video together, not seperate. If the port is available on your computer, trying using HDMI, the single cord for HDMI carries both sound and video. One last thing you can try with your current set up is find a set of the red and white rca hookups that are independent of any other grouping, in other words excluding the yellow video or any other connections. If you're T.V. wont play the sound in that, then either your headphones jack is messed up or the T.V. just wont recognize it while using VGA.

Please describe your how to hook up and compaq nc6220 to a tv. I have tried an adaptor with the three prong yellow/white/red to a video adaptor but no luck.

The easiest way to hook up any laptop to a tv is with either an HDMI cord, or an Svideo cord. It looks like your laptop supports Svideo, but make sure your TV supports it as well. The connection should look similar to this: snowyrat_0.jpg
If your TV does have the port, go to a nearby electronics store, and buy an Svideo cord. An employee there should be able to help you find one for a fairly decent price. If your TV doesn't have an Svideo slot, you should be able to get an Svideo to AV converter cord along with your Svideo cord. You can connect the Svideo to your laptop and the Svideo slot in the converter, then plug the AV cords into your TV. Hope this helps!

How can i connect my HP Compaq 6710b laptop to a Trinitron tv? My Tv has the three red/white coloured holes on the side

This is a good article that explains how to do it. Your going to need an s-video cable that splits into the red/white/yellow colors then hook those cable up to the TV and then make sure your TV is set to the proper input so you can get a picture. Article is courtesy of Geek with Laptop.

Hooking up sony tv to HP laptop

Do you have a HDMI jack on your TV? it looks just like the blue/graphics/monitor jack on your laptop. If so use it to connect and you should be able to use your tv as a monitor. (if you tv came with the HDMI cable?, if not you can purchase one ez enough from Radio Shack)

Check your users manual for directions on how to use the remote to get it to that function. My Hansphree TV I have to put it on AUX to use my laptop hooked to it and see my TV as my lappy monitor.

Hope this helps you and others! Good Luck.
