Question about Dryers

1 Answer

My Fisher Paykel Smartload dryer is not drying. I took the front off and the flame comes on and then about 30 seconds later it goes out, then it will come on again. Almost as if its going through a cycle. Is that how it is supposed to work or is the flame supposed to stay on the whole time? I have the dryer on regular dry. The problem is it is not drying the clothes, I open the lid and the clothes are a little damp and cold.

Are you talking about the gas dryer ignitor because I went to the link and they did not list the coils? I tapped on a switch that is on the front and also on what looks like a pressure switch where the gas comes in and it started working. The flame still kept going on and then off but the dryer was getting hot. I have a DGGX2US model dryer.

    Thanks

Rule of thumb for gas dryers...If the dryer turns but never produces heat then check the fuse.If the drum turns and you get intermittent heat, ignitor comes on but goes off without flame coming on or "my dryer takes longer to dry my clothes then check the gas valve coils first.

Sounds as if it is the gas valve coils

    Quick info tips....
Q - Dryer takes too long to dry or multiple times to dry a load

A1- Pull the dryer out away from the wall. Unhook the vent from the dryer completely. Do not put anything over the dryer exhaust on the back of the dryer. Do a normal load with the vent unhooked. If it dries better or ok like this then the problem is in the dryer venting. Like a blocked vent pipe or a smashed or restricted vent hose.

A2 - If the vent doesn't make a difference, then check the blower wheel for excessive lint build up, check that there isn't anything stuck to the air intake baffle inside the drum, (i.e. the screen on the back wall of the dryer when looking into the drum). Check the lint filter chute for blockage. Check that the heating element isn't shorted to ground. Check the exhaust temperature of the dryer. A meat or pocket thermometer can be used for this. It should cycle approx between 120 degrees and 160 degrees ( without clothes ). Check that the drum seals are not worn out.

Is it still not drying? This happens when the heating element goes out and can be replaced by yourself and the heating element coil is about 20 dollars. I'm not sure which wire is not connected, probably connects the button that shuts off when you open the door.

The dryer won't run. Dry, extra dry, and coold down process lights are lit.

Hi, the lights are signaling a control fault the is concerning the logic sector of the control board/timer. you will need to make sure that the wiring harness is connected to all points and it should be in good condition. if there are no apparent issue with the wiring harness, replace the control.
