This is caused by dried ink on the black print head. When the heads park on the wet ink pad on the right side of the printer for the night or when not in use, sometimes this gets clogged or dried. when the carrage is all the way to the left unplug the unit. this way you will have access to see if the pad is wet or not. a couple of Qtips and a small zip lock to place them in will tell you if it is wet. It just needs to be damp not very much. Depending on the age of the printer these pads may be totally soaked. If foam, you can take them out gently and rinse them in water until they are clear of ink. (most of them are actually grey or black foam) If it is a White pad, leave it alone this is a cleaner pad and will not come out, or may rip. If you are seeing allot of black it is becuase you either have cleaned the heads or all the colors have blended into black. A light mist of windex will moisten the heads when you then power up and let it go through the ritual of the back and forth sequence.and then power down. the heads will park on the now damp surface give it 30 minutes and try to print Black only. If you dont choose black only or grey scale then your only combining colors to make black. If this still doesnt work then there is a solution you can order, or send it in for service.

Display fax gives a warning "received in memory" we also have a warning "prepare black toner" We can not print the fax! What can we do?

Generally the "received in memory" message is a result of the machines inability to print. I.E. It received a fax, attempted to print it, failed, and then stored it in memory to print once the issue has been corrected.

The Prepare Black Toner error is likely directly related. If the toner cartridge is empty, inserted incorrectly, or damaged it could be causing this error. Try reseating the cartridge by removing and reinserting. If that doesn't clear the error try replacing it with a new Canon branded cartridge.

As soon as you correct the printing issue the stored faxes will print.

Printing off computer

Most likely your new cartridge has a damaged head. The tiny bit of electronics could have a fault, and therefore not be read properly by the printer. Try taking the cartridge out and cleaning the head with rubbing alcohol - both on the cartridge and the printer - then put it back in. If that doesn't work, try a different cartridge.

Hp psc 1210xi- the black ink cartridge appears to be out- i have a good color cartridge-how do I get the error off of my printer and print with my color cartridge?

  1. Take out the black cartridge once you've determined that you are completely out of black ink. You'll have to rely on the dark hues from the color cartridge to print in black.
  2. Adjust the printer software settings. Once you take out the black cartridge, your printer's software will typically warn you that you are missing a cartridge. Follow the instructions for your printer to allow the printer to print without the black cartridge. Then set the printer to print in black and white, not color. This overrides the black cartridge and allows the printer to access the dark hues of the color cartridge.
  3. Print a test page to ensure that your printer now prints black using the color cartridge.
  4. Print your documents. Bear in mind that your documents may not appear as black as normal. Still, they should be dark enough to pass for black, depending on how much color ink you have and the strength grade of the ink.

Want to print with black ink cartridge only

It is a little known fact that ink cartridges do have an expiry date, and it is sometimes possible that even if a printer reads full, that it has dried out and will not print. When you recieve a warning that your ink is too low you will simply be unable to print black ink after a certain point. Generaly if you want to print in only black you will have to do that when you print a document. For instance in IE when you go to file and then print you can select prefrences and select print in greyscale or black. hope this helps!
