Hi, Thanks for using fixya.

The system charger broke and I cant fix it

If the external PSU broke you will need to replace that. Be careful over what type you use as they depend on what type of battery you have (Li-ion or NiMH). Also use the right voltage with enough amps and the correct connector.

How ever if you are saying something internal id not working (eg battery not charging but system is working when PSU is plugged in and has power from the PSU) then some components on your m/b have become defective. Replace the m/b which you can do yourself if you have the appropriate level of technical ability or else take to a good or authenticated repairer. There are bound to be guides on the internet/youtube.

Cant turn computer on

Either you PSU ( Power Supply Unit ) has failed or your power switch has failed both very easy to replace as long as you take all the usual safety precautions prior to any repairs such as disconnect the power touch the plug of power cord to disperse any residual current and static strap or hand on the chassis to discharge the static then you can proceed in removing the PSU or Power switch and replace with an equivalent part. I hope this helps.

It seems that the power supply unit has gone. If you power it on and nothing happens then obviously the psu has gone. The heat that you felt was the psu overheating because of no fan and hence no ventilation. The noise was of the faulty psu fan that got stuck or did not work and the psu got overheated and got burnt eventually. Please replace it with a new one as a repaired psu may work but you cant rely on it.

Your unit has some sort of PSU fault, or a problem that is shutting down the Power Supply Unit, PSU. This happens so that no further damage, and possible fire will occur. You need to take the unit to a reputable service centre/man and ask for a firm FREE "Quote" for the work to be done.

Working fine until psu packed in, replaced psu, begins power up

The PSU dying may have destroyed the motherboard also. Try removing all interface cards and disconnecting all drives to make sure.

Without a visual inspection it sounds like the PSU is damaged, it is possible that the standby power is reaching the motherboard but the main circut is bust. i would replace the PSU with one of the same watt rating.

Be aware that incorrectly installing a power supply can cause damage to other componets or yourself. If in doubt see professional advice

Repair psu for gx280

I have had several issues with this same problem, you may need a new power supply, because your old one may be failing and may need replacement.

My solution to this problem is that you may need to buy a need psu. I recommend either calling dell or buy a new psu.
