Question about Philips Televison & Video

2 Answers

I have a Phillips DSR708 receiver with built in Tivo. The signal strength numbers are not stable on "Sat 2" input. Signal strength on "Sat 1" are stable and are in the upper 80's +. I have switched input cables with no change, and I have reset the unit, repeatedly, with no change in the "Sat 2" signal strength. Any suggestions?

Sorry, I can not accept your solution. Maybe I wasn't clear enough but this is a DUAL sat input receiver and SAT 1 is working very well with singals in the upper 80's plus. So, that elimates the dish as the problem.

The problem is SAT (input) 2, with the singal strength "blinking" (unstable) with signal numbers form the upper 80's to Zero,(I can see the numbers change upper 80's to zero with in a fee seconds) on all individual transponders. Also, I have switched the SAT 1&2 inputs, and still the box has a problem with SAT 2. This elimates any problem with the cables out to the dish.

Furthermore, I have unpluged the unit, and have reset the receiver many times, with no change in the SAT 2 signal strength.

Do you have any further ideas?

Hi Keith_imel,
Your unit used dual tuner (capable for direct tv reception), this symptom indicated that one of your tuner was gone bad(input 2- sat 2). This can't be solve by programming alone unless you've replaced it with new one. Also, consider bad solder joints in that section, however if the symptom still persist this is the time to look for the replacement. You may contact your local Philips service center for parts availability or your local electronics supply. You may also look online like or Part no. is listed in the tuner itself.
Hope I helped you.
Have a nice day!
Thanks for using Fixya.

Hi, what makes signal strength with low reception is the antenna. When the signal is not strong enough, might also be from the signal from the sever provider too.

You will have to make sure that there is Antenna and the Antenna it strong enough to receive a clear signal .

If the Signal is still not clear enough, You can use an external wire toconnect to the Antenna area at the back of the receiver. It will come.

Hope it has not been repaired before.

After allif still does not work, You will have to take it to the nearest store for repairs.

Is there any way to get Zone 2 to take the same source as Maine 1? My Zone 2 does not paly anything from cbl/sat even if zone 1 is on tuner

What kind of signal are you using for the cable/sat? Most receivers cannot use a digital input (optical, hmdi) to output a signal to zone 2. You may have to make an analog connection to get it to work.

Cannot change channel on my Dynex DX-L26-10a TV

Try checking the signal strength then run the scan again.
Checking the DTV signal strength
You can check the DTV signal strength to determine if you need to adjust your antenna or digital cable input. The higher the signal strength, the less likely you are to experience picture degradation. To check the DTV signal strength:
1.Press MENU. The on-screen menu opens.

2.Press < or > to highlight Channel, then press v. The Channel menu opens. The DTV signal strength is shown at the bottom of the menu.

3.Press EXIT to close the menu.

No hd signal on my lg32lc5dc tv

Answer a few questions to try to resolve this issue:

What is signal source for HD you are using? (cable box, sat box, receiver in line, antenna).

Where on the set are you connected? (HDMI, HD component input on rear or?)

Does if not a box used the set have a built in HD tuner?

Singals are not stable when inside the house

try this out
*#3370# - Enhanced Full Rate Codec (EFR) activation. Increase signal strength, better signal reception. It also help if u want to use GPRS and the service is not responding or too slow. Phone battery will drain faster though.
*#3370* - (EFR) deactivation. Phone will automatically restart. Increase battery life by 30% because phone receives less signal from network.

Digital built in turner

You'll need a better antenna. All the TV can do is show you the signal strength at the antenna input. If it's too low, only changing the antenna can help. This could mean simply adjusting the antenna position. You might need to replace the antenna with something larger or with a built-in amplifier. In severe cases, you might need to install an outdoor antenna to get a useable signal. With digital broadcasting it's all-or-nothing. A weak signal will either go undetected by the tuner or cause a blocky freezing (pixellated) display.
