My Philips FW 17 Personal Micro system doesnt read any CD. This function has not been working for last 4 years and have tried at Philips Service center. However, this doesnt seem to get resolved. i need this to be rectified at any cost. please help.

1. try reset.
2. If 1 doesnt work, try fw upgrade
3. if 2 doesn't work, try to do repair function by using device manager
4. still doesnt work, i m afraid you hv to send it to repair centre ( pls be reminded that u hv to bring purchase invoice) :)

Please will you indicate the problem so that we can go by the present issue. Within the electronics side specify whether it is power side, the drives,or the optical.

The battery could be bad.. They only last around 1 year.. IF the battey is bad id could give off wrong readings too...
I would try a new battery..

This is common with burned cd's they have trouble playing in different sets. Do prerecorder cd's play fine in your philips? If those are having trouble also you could improve it's playability possibly with a cleaning of the opu. Optical pick up.

Similar problem and went to at least 4 different service center including not authorized one but all say that there is problem of mother board which need to be replaced and cost RS. 4500
My system is still in the same position for at least one and half year bcauz all service center took at least 4-5 month and they kept me waiting.Last result from all was they denied saying board is not available.If anyone has same problem and its rectified than pls share your experience.As my system is lying without any use.

I understand. Must be a glitch somewhere. Anyways, I already posted possible solutions here your original posting/problem. They were:
1. Power on the Philips FW-R7, leave the left tray empty and closed. Open the tray and put in a recorded CD (not a CDR but a regular CD from your music collection), close the right tray. Wait a couple of seconds as the FW-R7 reads the CD. Now open the tray, remove the music CD and insert your CDR. The FW-R7 should read the CDR without the error message and record to the CDR from any source. Let me know if this works for you;
2. laser cleaning or realignment (would need a service center);
3. try using lower then 40X blank CDs.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

In power supply check capacitors ,one of them is leake or dry.Best way of detecting this cap is to have freez it (coolant) to sprey on the sections in power supply and thanindividual capacitors this will definately solve your problem.

To reset the system to "install" mode press & hold the "play/pause" button in the center of the unit until "AUTO INSTALL- PRESS PLAY" is displayed. If this doesn't work then the unit may be too hot! I see on the philips web site that this model has a temperature sensor & will shut itself off. I am in Spain too & the temperature inside right now is 30C!! You were close, but didn't explain it very well. If you push on the 'DISPLAY' button (left side of machine as you are facing it, about half way down) when the unit is off, it will say something like "DEALER MODE", push it again to return it to regular mode. You may have to press and hold the button to get it to display 'DEALER MODE', then when everything is normal, "DEALER MODE" just goes off and isn't replaced by anything. Hope I explained it well.
