Question about Audio Players & Recorders

1 Answer

Klipsch THX subwoofer just stopped working. Speakers still work (sound awful without the sub). Fuse looks solid. Back of sub was hot.

Heat is the clue.

Generally speaking, an amp protects itself from heat, shorts, overloads and operator exuberance by refusing to turn on or stay on.

Overloads can be from excessive periods of high output or marginally low impedance loading by the speakers; and shorts would be wiring issues or a speaker blowing up.

You should be able to feel if it's hot. WHY is it overheating? Make sure it has sufficient ventilation on all sides and that vent holes are not blocked by dust balls. Ensure the fan (if equipped) is running as designed (some only operate on demand). Clean dust and debris from it.

If the amp comes back on after cooling, you're lucky. They only have so many self-protection cycles in their lives so continuously resetting or cycling their power without addressing the cause can do more harm than good.

If you can gain access to the subwoofer driver, disconnect one side of it and see if the amp comes up. The driver miight have shorted.

If it does not come up the problem is internal and should be left to an experienced and competent hands-on tech.

My klipsch sw112 sub stop working and know when i turn it on it just makes a clicking sound the led light flashes on and off

The sub amplifier circuit is probably damaged and the protection circuit takes over. Have a qualified electronics technician take a look at it.

I cant get any sound from my speakers only the subwoofer will work

Klipsch, usually fuse the speakers. look at the back of your speaker to see if there is a fuse holder, if not, it may be internal and if there is a panel you can take off, do that and look inside for a fuse and check it with a volt/ohm meter if its blown replace it with same value fuse. Aother way you can check to see if the speakers still work is to take a 9 volt battery and touch the terminals of the battery to the terminals of the speaker, if you hear a clicking sound or better yet can see the speaker move in or out the the speaker is good and the problem is elsewhere in your system. if both speakers don't work I would first suspect the fuse in the speakers. you could also try hooking up different speakers to your amp and see if those work, one last thing, plug in some headphones, if they work you will know that at least that part of your amp works.

I have a Klipsch Sub-10 It is NOT working. I am not sure what happened. It was just fine last week. It's powered up and everthing but not throwing any bass. It was also detected during the auto setup.

If you're saying the auto setup produced sound then the sub and its amp are fine.

So we need to examine the source electronics for actual playback settings. Give a hint of what that might be.

Klipsch ksw subwoofer wont power on

The power supply switching transistors are likely fried. Dangerous high voltages involved. I would remove the plate and send it to Klipsch for repair.

Hooking up a Klipsch

Need to confirm that you have a subwoofer cable which is a coax cable. I have seen this sort of issue when using a standard RCA cable. If you need a cable you can order it at monoprice.com

Good luck..

Klipsch subwoofer

its all about impedance matching...did you check to see that the new yamahas would drive from the system, before installing them? sounds like you will need to possibly add a matching transformer or other device on this one.
