Question about Grundfos Plumbing

1 Answer

I have a grundfos pump for a household water tank. The red failure light keeps coming on. I can start it with a screw driver at the back but, after it pumps to build up the pressure it stops again and the red light comes back on. I have to keep starting it manually. do you have any ideas ??? thank you.

It sounds like there is sediment in the pump housing. Take it apart and clean out the area the impeller runs in or failing that change your pump

No water

Does the motor turn it self off after a couple of minutes of no pumping?= ran out of water. If there is water up to the pump and still no water, check filter/s ( if there is any). Undo V band and check pump internals, impeller may be broken from shaft? When putting back together tap V band with block off wood or back of screw driver evenly as you do up the clamp to stop it distorting

Can you describe the pump you have? Is it used for household water or a sprinkler system? Typically a household pump will have a storage tank and a pressure switch. 90% of the problems with a pump not turning off is due to the pressure switch.

Grundfos MQ pump starts every 15 seconds

Pressure is bleeding back through the pump or system to the tank or well or where ever the water is coming from. Should be some sort of one way valve to keep water from going back to the source, mounted somewhere so that once pressure is pumped up, it will hold that pressure in the part of the system that has the pressure switch that controls the pump.

That or you have a leak where you can't see it. (Actually you do, it is just internal and not leaking outside the pipes!)

I have a small Grundfos attached to a 10,000l water tank. The pump was totally submersed in the recent Brisbane floods. I hosed it out with fresh water, took the cover off and have let it dry out for two...

The next thing that I would try would be if it is possible, try to get either the motor end or the impellar end to rotate by hand, using a screwdriver or other tool. Maybe the bearings are somewhat rusted/seized together. If you can do it by hand, then it may work electrically.
Don't do anything by hand while it is powered up.
Let me know,

Timer gets off by hours

I have circulation system on my water heater.
First system gave out.
When taken apart, it was clogged with sediment and couldn't be cleaned.
Put sediment filter on line, and second circulation system works fine, and timer works fine too.
I haven't had timer problem, but have investigated timer motors running fast and slow.
My friend who re-winds big pump motors says homeowner timer motors are engineered for 60Hz.
As long as electric power is 60Hz (60 cycle AC), then motor will keep exact time.
Since your household current is 60Hz and other electro-mechanical timers run correctly, then it's likely timer motor has a flaw or has gone bad.
Grundfos water heater re-circulation pump and timer are sealed unit.
Grundfos manuals do not show parts list or repair steps:
It's aggravating when expensive household timers like Malibu power packs and Grundfos pumps are not made to be repaired.

My Grundfos MQ pump won't start after it has been idle for 4 to 5 weeks. It is installed at my weekend place in the country. This has happened several times. Pump was replaced once but problem...

There should be a small cap on the motor end of the pump, take that off and you will see the stainless steel shaft with a **** in it for a flat bladed screw driver. You should not need to turn the water off. A few drops might come out, but it's safe to do it that way. Turn the shaft with the screw driver and that should loosen up the pump.

Hope this helps.

Grundfos UPS 25-50 180 - start up

Are you able to check for power to the pump with a mult-meter. If you have power you the know the pump has siezed (flat spot on the motor) if there is no power then you know there are issues with the controls.
I hope this may have helped,
