If you are using Windows XP/Windows 7 all you have to do is right click on the time in the taskbar, and click properties. Click on "synchronize with web" (or something to that effect) and it will sync to an online server, thereby fixing the problem. I don't know exactly how to do it, since I am not running Windows, but I've done this before on my mom's computer. :)

By your description you need to replace the c-mos battery on the motherboard, it provides the power to the bios chip so the date and time are not lost. I recommend a technician because the unit must be dis-assembled to access the battery for replacement. This problem occurs every time you start up the computer, making you correct the time and date every time it is turned on.

Er-290 change date

Get into the Bios or System Setup. When you power on the computer watch the screen and it will tell you which key to press to get into the Bios or System Setup.

You can also adjust the date and time by Right Clicking on the time at the bottom right corner of the screen and select Adjust Date/Time.

Time and date are not set correctly

When the Date and Time is set in the BIOS setup or in Windows and when you boot up next time and the date and time are incorrect then the problem is a flat BIOS battery. A flat BIOS battery cannot keep the Data and Time stored in the BIOS. Replace the BIOS battery and set the Date and Time etc and the problem will be fixed.

My computer time and date are in another language and time and I can't figure out how to change them to english. Have tried adjust time date.

If you are opening the time/date from the task bar, instead try going to the control panel and open the Regional Settings applet. In there you can set time zone and other settings that may help.

HI. I ve a NEC versa pro VA12J. When i start my laptop it starts with beep sound and shows BIOS screen with an error message: 0251: system CMOS checksum bad- default configration used. During this period,...

This "0251" error indicates that the CMOS (complementary metal-oxide semiconductor; a memory chip that holds data the computer needs each time it starts, such as the current time and the BIOS [Basic Input/Output System]) has become corrupted or damaged, typically because of one of these three reasons: A BIOS update has gone awry, a recently installed program incorrectly modified the BIOS, or the computer battery is running out of power.

If you recently upgraded the BIOS, the first thing you should do is edit the BIOS settings. The BIOS developer can help you access the BIOS Setup utility and configure the BIOS accordingly. Likewise, if you recently installed a program that may have modified the BIOS, contact the software developer for assistance in reconfiguring the BIOS for the new program.
If you did neither of these things, the culprit is probably a faltering battery. You can probably replace the battery on your own, but the process varies widely depending on the type and age of the computer. We suggest consulting the documentation that came with your computer or contact the computer manufacturer to determine the type of battery involved, where to purchase a new one, and how to replace it. You can also access the BIOS Setup utility and write down the BIOS settings to reconfigure the BIOS correctly after installing the replacement battery. Once the new battery is in place, you will have to reconfigure the BIOS and reset the system time, but the error message shouldn't appear again.

hope this helps

My pc automatically get start on plug on .and then it suggest me to press F1 to Continue. when I do this it takes incorrect date and time how to restrict it.I want to start it with start button on cabinet

There can be many reasons...
  • Your BIOS setting is not correct.
  • CMOS battery is down(Most probably).
  • both
You can open the BIOS setting page by pressing keys like DEL, F10, etc. depending on your system's manufacturer at computer startup(post screen). There are lots of wakeup options check them properly.
One of the option is "Restore last state of power Button on failure" which can turn on your computer without touching the power button. you should check these options.

And it suggest you to press F1 because your system's date/time is not configured properly. You can also set Time/date in BIOS also.
If your BIOS Battery(CMOS) is not weak or dead then after setting these values your computer should start properly.
And if your BIOS battery is dead then all the settings will be lost(date/time etc) after a restart and you will face same problem again...

Try changing the Power-button option and Date/Time in BIOS and see if problem persist....if yes then you have to change COMS battery that is on your Motherboard.

How do I change the date and time

there are two areas where you need to change the date and time.
1. Bios. To get into your bios you will need to press the DEL key at computer startup then arrow down to the time and date.

2. Once you are in windows down in the bottom right corner of the screen double click on the time and a new window will appear you can then adjust your date and time.

Lenovo thinkpad R51e ,when i power on the laptop it show error271

This error message is generated when the BIOS Date and Time is incorrect. Go into the BIOS configuration to change the Date and Time. When you reboot and still get the same error message then the BIOS battery is flat and needs to be replaced and the Date and Time setting needs to be change to the current Date and Time after replacing the battery.
If you cannot get into the BIOS configuration (press F1 on bootup) or you get a lock icon in the top LH corner of the screen, this is a Power on Password symbol, enter the passsword to bootup the laptop and then press F1 to get into the BIOS configuration.

Startup problem

This could be a corrupt bios or a low cmos battery, follow instructions. Take the right hand side panel off the pc. Look for a disc shaped 3V watch type battery and replace (Very cheap) Look on the motherboard and reset the bios at the 'JBAT1' terminal put jumper(little plastic cap) from pins 1-2 to pins 2-3 for a few seconds then back to pins 1-2. Restart pc and enter bios when prompted(or press F2 or DEL on startup) to set time and date, save settings and Exit bios. It should now boot ok.
