You can reset the router to it's factory defaults by pressing and holding the reset button down for 5 seconds. The default username is admin and default password is password.

I need the usernamne and the password to login to my netgare wgr614

The username is always admin. The password by default is password. If it's been changed, you have to reset the router to get into it. The reset button will restore system defaults so the ip address becomes 192.168.1.1 and the admin/password defaults will work.

The reset button is next to the LAN port and its one of the holes in the back.

I need the usernamne and the password to get in to my netgar.

Hello Emma
The IP for the router is 192.168.0.1, or 192.168.0.1 The default username: admin password:password
if the password has been changed at some point then you will need to use a paper clip to hit the reset button on the back of the router, which will set the router back to default. At this point the default username and password provided will work.

For some odd reason my wifi light on netgar isnt lighting (desktop computer) . but im trying to hook my laptop through it and it wont let me, whats wrong?

Hi, the wireless light will not lit up if it has been disabled on the configuration or the router has been reset in the past. The only way to get the wifi working is by reconfiguring it. Please perform the steps below to reset and reconfigure the router:

CONNECTIONS:

1. Connect a Ethernet cable from the modem to the WAN port of the router(isolated port).
2. Connect the computer to the router using any one of the 4 available ports. Please make sure that THERE IS NO DIRECT CONNECTION BETWEEN THE MODEM AND THE COMPUTERS (either using Ethernet cable or USB cable).
3. Power off the modem and the router after making the connections.
4. Power on the modem and wait for the lights, then power on the router.

RECONFIGURE:

1. Open the browser(Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox).
2. Access the router, usually with http://192.168.1.1 or http://www.routerlogin.com.
3. Login to the router with the Username as "admin" and Password as "password" (please note that the username and password is case sensitive).
4. Click on 'Basic settings' from the left menu and select 'Use Computers MAC Address' from 'router MAC Address' section.
5. Click Apply.
6. Once it updates the settings then power off the modem and the router. Power on the modem and wait for the lights, then power on the router.
Once online on the main computer connected through the router. Perform the following tasks to configure the wireless connection:
On the router settings page

1. Click on wireless settings from the left menu.
2. Select security options as 'WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy)'.
3. Set the 'Authentication Type' as 'Automatic'.
4. Set the 'Encryption Strength' as 64-bit.
5. In Key 1 type a 10 digit number.
6. Apply the settings.

Scan for the wireless network on the laptop and connect to your network.

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue.

If I have helped you, please help me, and rate this suggestion the highest FixYa rating. If you cannot rate this post with the highest rating, then please comment to this post and I will try to help you further.

Wirless netgare router setup

Here are some troubleshooting steps that I suggest you try:

1. Check physical connections.

a. Connect the modem to the Internet port of the router. The Internet “i” LED on the front of the router should light up.
b. Connect the computer to one of the four LAN ports (i.e port 1, 2, 3 or 4) on the back of the router. The corresponding port light where you connected the computer should be lit up.

2. Access the router's web-based utility.

a. Please open any web browser like Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator.
b. Connect to the router by typing http://routerlogin.com/basicsetting.htm or http://192.168.1.1 in the address field and click Enter or Return key.
c. A window will prompt for a user name and password. By default, the user name is "admin" and the password is "password".

Note: If you were unable to access the router's web-based utility, you may reset the router to restore the settings to factory default.

To reset the router:

a. Please push the reset button at the back of the router and release after 30 seconds.
b. Unplug the power adapter for 10 seconds and then plug it back in.

3. Configure the router.

If your Internet Service Provider is using a cable connection, please follow the steps below:

a. Click on Basic Settings under Setup tab.
b. Select No for Does Your Internet Connection Require A Login?.
c. Scroll down on the center page and look for the Router MAC Address section. Set it to Use computer MAC address and click on the Apply button.

If your Internet Service Provider is using a DSL connection, please follow the steps below:

a. Click on Basic Settings.
b. Select Yes for Does Your Internet Connection Require A Login?.
c. Select Other on the Internet Service Provider drop down box.
d. Enter your ISP's username (username@ISPdomain) and password. Then, click on Apply.

4. Configure the wireless settings.

a. Click on the Wireless Settings under Setup.
b. Change the SSID to any unique name.
c. Scroll down, look for the Security Options settings and select WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy).
d. Set the Authentication type to "Automatic" and the Encryption Strength to "64bit".
e. Leave the Passphrase field blank, select Key 1 and enter a 10-digit number.

Note: The 10-digit number you typed in the key 1 will be the password or network key for the wireless connection.

f. Click Apply button to save the changes.
g. Go to Router Status under Maintenance tab and check if there is an IP address under Internet port. If it's 0.0.0.0, do a power cycle.

5. Power cycle.

a. Power off the modem, router and computers.
b. Turn on the power of the modem first and wait for it to initialize, the lights to stop blinking.
c. Power back the router and the computers. Check if it will be able to get online.

If you have wireless computers, you can connect them wireless to the router. Kindly follow the instructions below:

Lost password

The only option to recover or change the existing password is to connect to the router via Ethernet cable. It can't be done through wireless (that's the whole point, isn't it...)

Open a webbrowser, type http://192.168.0.1 in the address field of your browser, and then click Enter.

If you have changed the login from the default settings (username: admin, password: password) and have forgotten your password for the weblogin, then the only choice you have is to reset the router to default factory settings.
In order to do that, you have to press and hold the WPS button and the Wireless button on the side of the router until the Test LED turns on (about 10 seconds). Then release the buttons and wait for the router to reboot.

Now you can log in and reset your wireless security. (Remember that you have to fill in all other changes you have made as well, so keep your DSL username and password handy!)

If you have any more questions, just come back here and leave a comment - I'm happy to help.

I cant get the router in my computer conected to the internet!!!!

What do you mean by Router in your Computer? Routers aren't housed within Computers. Are you saying Network Interface Card (NIC) connected ?

Please tell me more about what's happening or not happening. I do this for a living ... with a Major Telecommunications Corp.

Also, tell me what brand of Router you are using and whether it's self contained such as 2wire Routers. which have the router and wireless capabilities all in one unit.
