Question about ASUS M4A79 Deluxe Motherboard

2 Answers

I have tried running 2 different M4A79 deluxe motherboards with a corsair 650W power supply, phenom I X4 processor, and an nVidia 9800GT video card but neither of them will so much as turn on with everything plugged in as it should be, the same setup functions perfectly with my gigabyte motherboard, any ideas as to what might cause this?

It sounds like the ATX power supply is not getting turned on by the motherboard.
In order for this to happen, pin 14 (PS_ON*) of the 20-pin ATX power plug from the power supply must be pulled to ground. You can test this by plugging the power supply in to AC power without it plugged in to the motherboard.

Using a paper clip, short pin 14 (PS_ON*) to pin 15 (ground) and the power supply should turn ON.

Looking at the front of the 20-pin plug, with the latch on the top, pin 14 is the 4th from the left

If you can turn on the power supply by shorting pin 14 to ground, but it doesn't happen when plugged into the motherboard, there is most likely a jumper setting on the motherboard which has not been configured correctly.

I hope this helps!

It could be that the cpu or the ram module does not fit the main board.
Did you connect all the cables right ???
Is the power supply on ??
Does the green led ligths on the board ??
If it flashes red there is something wrong.
A wrong size ram (MHZ) or cpu will not make the mainboard to start
before upgrading the bios.
Be carefull to connect the front sound connector you can burn the mainboard
by connecting it wrong. READ THE MANUAL

If you dont have a manual
dowload it here:
http://www.asus.com/Product.aspx?P_ID=F8NXs2xIQloc5nrb&content=specifications

Hope this was helpfull.

ASUS M3N78-VM motherboard Problemes

Good Motherboard...BTW... Reset BIOS to Factory defaults. Make sure you have the latest BIOS as well. Then you need to eliminate the other devices. Try running just on the On-Board Video...see if crashes. Run w 2 Gig Ram...same same... and of course the processor which may be impossible. Once you know it is MB or CPU... you make a choice which to buy or test. MB first... you can always return with less stress.

P5N-SLI

HI stukove2000,
What is the 5200 stand for?
Here is Asus approved CPU list link for the P5N-E SLI MB:
http://support.asus.com/cpusupport/cpusupport.aspx?SLanguage=en-us&model=P5N-E%20SLI

The Corsair TWIN2X2048-6400 5-5-5-15, should work just fine on the Asus MB.
Here is an expanded approved Qualified Venders List from Asus.
http://www.asus.com/999/download/products/1474/1474_10.pdf
You can also see a smaller QVL list in the manual on page 1-18 & 1-19.
The QVL insures total compatibility with the motherboard.

The NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT will run just fine on the Asus MB. Just make sure your power supply is no less than 500W. A 600W or 650W is preferred.
