Question about Actiontec GT701R DSL Modem

Open Question

Hello, I use Qwest ISP and have their high speed service at 7mbps. My download tests are only around 5.7 mbps. Qwest is saying my ActionTec Gt701r may be the problem as it is outdated. However, the data sheet on ActionTec for the Gt701r model look as if they can support 7 mpbs. I've not had any problems in the past with this modem and am worried about going through the hassle of replacin it if it isn't going to speed up performance. Any suggestions?

    Hi malonespoali, how far are you from the telephone exchange ?
    I have a slow speed on my ADSL as I am at the end of the cable even though I am 100 metres from the telephone exchange the cable goes around the block the long way in the wrong direction ie the longer way .

Yes, if the other isp is also providing dsl services, but you will have to configure the device the other isp will not help you with that.

but its really not that difficult.

problem occurs usually after upgrade of internet speed. contact your ISP again, ask them to check for latency or dropped packets within their network. they need to run a traceroute from their end and it would also be better if you can run a traceroute from your end. also run a speedtest through speedtest.net or speakeasy.net. There's also a possibility that the modem is becoming faulty. If your ISP provided you the modem it's still best to contact them for possible replacement.

You mean you need to check the Downloading and Uploading speed of the Internet?There are lot of sites available through online.
You can just visit the sites Scanmyspeed.com and Ip-details.com there you can test the Uploading and Downloading speed in Mbps and MBps.

Low connection speed


Hello, the 100Mbps connection is to your router and not to the Internet. that means you can copy with a speed of 100Mbps(theoretically) between computers in YOUR network. You can test your Internet speed on www.speedtest.net, choose a nearby test point. If you paying for 2mbps and only getting 0.15 I suggest that you contact your Internet Provider because its very low if you paying for 2mbps.

Very Very LOW Download speeds....!!!


1. Internet Service Providers (whoever you have your broadband connection with) are more and more limiting your download speeds via torrent to 20 or 30k. This is by design of your ISP and there is nothing much that you can do about and the reason they do it is to prevent people from downloading copyrighted materials.

2. If you have a legitimate reason for using torrent technology to download 1GB+ files often, then contact your ISP about it and tell them you are trying to download legal files of whatever it is you are trying to download and see if they will fix it. Probably not, however. In fact, they probably won't even admit to using sandvine to limit your download speeds. I know for one Comcast is doing this very thing.

I have had this same problem with Qwest using a new iMac and MacBook on the Actiontec modem. Qwest did two things: first we reset the modem which was fairly simple and took only about 5 minutes. However, this fix lasts only a few weeks and it comes back. I have just ordered a new modem since there seems to be a problem with the Actiontec device with the newer high speed internet.
I'd try the reset before doing anything else. Good luck.
