Just hooked up (water lines only, no control wiring yet) a 3 station Jar top Manifold. One of the valves is open while the other two are shut. Have taken apart and see not apparent reason for it to be...

Make sure the bleeder is closed or solenoid is tight. Sometimes valves just fail without a obvious reason. Suggest purchasing the same jar top valve and rebuilt it using the new diaphragm, spring, bonnet and solenoid. This should correct the problem.

Receive short message on controller box for valve2 sprinkler on orbit snap wire connector

Disconnect the wire at the valve and try again. If no short connect the wire to adjacent valve and see if it shorts out. If no, replace the solenoid. If you still get a short message the problem is in the timer circuit board. Replace the timer.

Model 57882 9 station timer I did set up station 1 where do I begin in order to set up station 3

Question is not clear.
Do you have programming problem with the timer?
Or problem locating sprinkler heads?
Or a sprinkler valve problem?
Add a comment with detailed information.

Sprinkler timer turns ON-and-OFF.
Timer does not advance the sprinkler to next station. The sprinkler valve advances to next station when timer turns OFF.
For example, when timer turns ON, then station 1 starts watering.
Timer turns off, and then sprinkler valve automatically advances to station 2.
Timer turns on again, and station 2 starts watering.

I am looking for a battery water timer that does not need pressure to operate. Just gravity. Any ideas?

Google search: 'battery operated timer' and 'battery operated hose end'

Smarthome shows the Orbit: and has manual:

The manual says 'turn down water pressure.' It looks to me like this timer opens and closes the valve with or without water pressure.
Sounds like it would be perfect timer for above ground cistern where gravity cause water to flow when valve is opened.

Amazon shows battery operated hose end, but doesn't show manual:
Hose end timers are not going to have a pressure gauge.
