I would suggest you replace your AV cables.
After a few years the cables can go bad.
If this doesn't fix the issue, try playing the tape in another VCR.
If that works, it's probably time to replace your VCR with a VCR/DVD combo player.

VHS Tape Suddenly plays in fast forward, can this be fixed?

Hi.
Why is my VHS tape playing fast?"); display: inline-block; height: 24px; width: 24px; margin-top: -1px; transform: rotateZ(-180deg);"> If you have a VHS video tape that's playing too quickly then it's very likely that the player you are using does not support either LP or SLP. Vhs view block

It sounds to me like you have a blank tape or an SVHS tape, which won't play on a VHS machine though they look the same tape.

I can play DVD's but not VHS tapes. I hav checked all connections and several tapes to no avail. Thank you ! Ol' Fred

Hey Ol' Fred...
One of my good friends is an ol Fred so I felt compelled to stop in and help!
I'm not sure of your setup, but if you've got a combo DVD/VHS unit, make sure that you have out puts to the TV for Both parts separately... You can designate by accessing the TV's onscreen menu and setting up a separate source for DVD and one for VHS. I've found on my projection TV that it's best to use the Coax cable connections for the VHS to TV.
Then once it's setup with separate hookups to the Tv, you should have audio and video for VHS...

Toshiba 26AV502U (new) video dropout if VHS tapeis not perfect

Had problem checked by local outfit called "Circuit Pro"; their analysis was compatibility.
Actual answer was that the Toshiba required a better quality input from "any" VHS source.
I finally took a "less than perfect" VHS tape with me when I returned the Toshiba TV to the store and demonstrated the problem to one of the TV sales people. He played the VHS tape through a display VHS/DVD player to three different brands of TV. The picture was often "black screen" on a Toshiba, but was merely poor quality on the other two brands. I upgraded to a Sony KDL26M4000 from the Toshiba 26AV502U.
