There are a couple of likely issues. It could be as simple as a bad hard disk drive, or drive connector (this has happened with me.) It might be as bad as a faulty motherboard. Theses issues can be fixed at the Apple store for around 120 dollars for the drive or 80 for the cable. Better not to even think about the cost of a board. Best of all the employees at the genius bar will diagnose it for free. I'd recommend calling ahead to reserve an appointment time.

Mac book pro. Black screen cannot start but with boot sound

Have you tried connecting an external monitor.

A boot chime means the Mac has passed POST, that the screen remains black initially suggests there is a problem getting image to screen which could mean a bad cable to the LCD or the LCD display its self is having problems.

By connecting to an external display you verify the graphics on the logic board is functional, and it could get you up and running till the display problem is fixed.

Also try powering up and when you hear the chime, hold down the COMMAND+OPTION+P+R keys, and keep holding them till the machine has chimed 3 times, this will reset the 'BIOS' in case there is a glitch there stopping the display from showing up.

Macbook stuck on load up screen

When you say "load up screen", I assume you mean the Apple boot screen (it has the apple on a gray background).

You might try resetting the PRAM on the macbook.
You can do this by pressing and holding the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.

So, turn the macbook completely off. Turn it on and immediately press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys until the computer reboots and chimes. Once it chimes, release the keys. Your system should boot normally.

White screen of death on Macbook 13". when turning

You may need to reset the PRAM.
Start your computer and hold down the option, command (apple), P and R keys simultaneously until you hear the second chime. Then release.

This will reset the perimeter RAM (PRAM) and may allow your system to start, which it will do immediately if it capable.
If this is not the case and you have already tried removing the RAM and the HD, you may need to have the motherboard tested.

My Powerbook G4 turns on light, fan, chime but no video.

Your hard drive has lost a file needed to start up the machine. The folder with the question mark means it cannot find a useable Operating system. I hope you backed up your files you needed becuase the only real way to recover the machine is to reinstall the OS from the install disk. You must format the Hard Drive from the format option on the install disk and reinstall the OS.

When booking up, a symbol that looks like a circle with a line through it shows up and it will not buge

try holding down command(apple key), option, p, and r after the chime this should reset the non volatile ram and the startup disk, cache, etc. if that doesn't work restart holding down command option o f after the first chime when it loads to a white screen type the command "reset-all" exactly like that without quotation marks and hit enter if the computer doesn't restart type "reboot" or maybe "reboot- now" or "reboot now" I can't remember exactly but you can try them all and if that doesn't work with the osx cd hold down the c key (option c on some earlier models) or option key after the first chime the c key will boot straight to cd option will give you a choice between cd hard disks or network boot select cd and press the arrow underneath it after loaded from the cd you will see options at the very top of the screen like you would see in the finder in one of the drop down menus I think it is utilities it will have Disk Utility open that select the disk on the left and go to the repair screen by selecting the appropriate tab at the top of the center box then at the bottom right click the repair disk tab if it cannot be repaired you must reinstall the system NOTE:the hard drive may be bad in which case you will not be able to reinstall unless you replace the drive however if you cannot boot to the cd then you more than likely have a serious hardware failure and will have to bring the computer to be serviced although on that old of a unit it may just be time for an upgrade if that is the case
good luck and best wishes P.S.-don't forget to rate me

There is a ? and mac os symbol on the screen coming out

when booting immediately after the first chime before the grey screen hold down keys (apple, option,p,r) allow the computer to restart if it still goes to that blank screen restart again and this time hold down only the (option) key or maybe (option,s) depending on model try option key first then select the main start up disk from the menu and click the arrow underneath

Blank screen upon powering up

First try resetting the PRAM - Hold Command + Option + P + R until u hear a chime.

If that doesn't work, apply firm pressure about 1 inch below the option + command and start the iBook, it takes the iBook to turn on the screen approx. 30 seconds.
