Why did it catch on fire?

Any flaws in the painted surface on the inside of the unit will cause a spark and that generates heat. Examine the surfacecor any exposed metal. You have to use special paint to resurface the inside.

Model R-2120JW. Why is it sparking/fire where the rack sits in the rack hook?

Wild guess: Maybe it's making contact with some metalized paper or aluminium foil?

Pry off plastic tab. Clean up burn marks with sand paper and touchup paint. Order a new rack clip. Also clean any burn residue off rack.
MOST IMPORTANT: After the repair, do not put the rack back in unless you are cooking on it. Running the microwave with nothing on the rack is what causes this to happen.

Replacement mica cover for sanyo d95535n microwave

Hi there micro
There are things that the microwave does not like. One of them is aluminium or metal for that matter.
You can buy plastic hoods or just cover the plate with plastic film not forgetting to pierce the film in several places in order to let the steam escape.
all the best

Put A foil pan in it to warm and now has a burning smell and makes a noise, not heating. assume we blew something Sharp R-7A85

Never, never, never, never, never put anything metal in a microwave oven! No metal, no pot or pan, no silverware, no plate with metal trim ... nothing! No "Jiffy Pop" (comes in a metal container). Use ONLY microwave safe containers. Some claim there are health concerns (dangers) to using anything plastic in a microwave. The claim is the chemicals in the plastic which were not meant to be consumed are consumed as they are burned out of the plastic into the food. These chemicals are know to some to be cancer causing. I am not making this claim ... only passing on what I have heard about plastics. For myself, I don't use plastic or paper (fire hazard) in the microwave. For one thing, I don't like the taste of food that has been prepared or reheated in a microwave in a plastic container - particularly coffee.

Having said that ... here is what is going on. You probably reflected microwave back into the magnatron and ... well ... cooked it. In my area, such damage is not economically repairable. The tech wants $100.00 to look at it, magnatrons are typically $50 to $100 or more. There could also be other damaged parts ... repair bill could be more than a replacement oven.

If you find a oven that comes with a rack, here is how that works. You will observe that the rack sits with flat feet on a carousel which is typically out of the range of the microwave OR has been built to reflect the waves in a manner that they will not damage the magnatron. Typically, a rack will be made of very small round stock that will not reflect much in any single direction ... besides that, you would have food on the rack that would absorbe most of the energy anyway.

If you replace this oven, please ensure you review all the warnings and instructions that will accompaly your new oven ... even the seemingly silly stuff like "dont use the microwave in your bath tub to heat the water".

I believe your oven is cooked. I'm sorry you are having this trouble and I hope my comments have helped you to arrive at a workable solution to your problem.

I need to change the door catch, so how i take the door apart to replace the catch ??

if you mean the door hook inside the door this is quite easy you need a flat small bladed screwdriver to split apart the plastic inner part of door from the outer keep working around till you have released all the catches there are several, the inner skin will pull away revealing the hook and a spring the hook just slides out refit new hook with spring and reassemble. easy.

Burnt hole in microwave

Is the hole actually bigger than it originally was or is it just empty because the rack support got burned up & discarded?

The rack supports / rack holders can be ordered. The part number is WB06X10140 (or WB6X10140) and they're less than $5.00 each. You can find them in stock here.

If you install a new rack support in the hole, then any gap or hole around it can allow grease to accumulate, and that can lead to arcing. But you can seal it safely & easily.

Once the support is installed and everything is squeaky clean and dry, you can apply a small amount of silicone caulk into the gap or hole.

Let it dry it overnight with the door open, then use a razor blade or X-acto knife to gently trim away any excess caulk.

That would be a really good fix.

Sparks when in use

Sonja, I'm not sure what hinges you're speaking about. If you are referring to the bumpers on the ends of the wire racks that are used for convection...move the racks away from the wall. Generally, you should not have anything metal in the unit when it is just microwaving....they are for convection use. You will not start a fire but you will shorten the life of the magnetron if you continue to allow the sparking condition.

Replacing the door catch

If you're talking about a hook-like device that sticks out of the door and goes into a hole in the chassis of the microwave (or any other internal part of the door for that matter) you'll have to take the door apart. Brands and models vary, but some use screws which are obvious, and others use hidden hooks similar to the ones in the drawing I've added to this post. If you can post or e-mail photos of the area where the part goes, we may be able to translate our experience with other brands to yours.
