You will have to reinstall. The manufacturer (Dell) should have either provided you with a disc you can insert, or a recovery partition to install from. If you cannot find a disc, turn your computer on and immediately you should see a Dell logo, and on the bottom of the screen are some instructions. It will say something like f2 for startup or similar. Find the key combination for "recovery" and press it. Follow the on screen instructions.

If nothing here works, contact Dell and request a recovery disc for your operating system.

yes you can upgrade your hard drive but still on ATA,if you upgrade in SATA you need some converter from ATA to SATA .and since it's a laptop i think its hard to do that thing.

My pc is not displaying, keyboard not coming on, sytem fan is running fast and the mouse is on please help me to fixya this. My email is aamos@webmail.co.za.

Sounds like you have a hardware problem. Try to isolate the problem first.
just retain the connection for power supply for the motherboard. disconnect the hard drive, optical drives connectors power / power supply Try to detach the memory and plug it back in. Do this with your video card as well. if you have other cards installed on your slot remove them first. just retain the video card. The idea is to just enable the basic parts to make your computer boot up (not up to the operating system since we remove the hard drives)

MODEL IS VAOI VGN-NR21M_S HARD DRIVE FAIL, CANT INSTALL NEW OPERATING SYSTEM ON NEW DRIVE AS WINDOWS NOT PICKING UP NEW HARD DRIVE, IN BIOS THER IS NO OPTION TO SET IT TO AUTO DETECT, HELP!!

Hi !

For some reason, some hard disk will be damage due to bad sector and you cannot do anything about it not reinstall any operating system.

If the Hard Disk Drive failed to install the operating system, the hard drive is damaged and cannot be reformat. The only solution is to replace new Hard disk drive to install the operating system.

My macbook has a grey screen with a file and question mark

This means it can't find the operating system. Try taking RAM chips out and re-inserting firmly. Also, make sure you got the right kind of RAM chips in the two slots as Macs are picky. Also, make sure you got more RAM memory than you need so the Mac will run super fast. If none of these RAM tricks help, then re-install the operating system by doing an archive and install so you can retain your data. Alternatively, you can take the hard drive out and insert it into an external drive case, then install a new hard drive into the laptop, and do a clean install. Then you can extract the data from the old external hard drive.

Hi guys..i got a problem with my laptop cq40.i cant install vista os.3 type os i had tried.but none of them can install.otherthing,is it my cq40 cant use windows xp sp3?

you may need to format your hard drive before installing any operating system on your laptop. also try removing the hard drive, use an ide/sata adapter and connect it via USB or install inside another computer.

use THAT computer to format your hard drive and install your operating system initially and then remove it and place it back in the laptop to finish the process.

Partmgr sys

did the computer originally come with windows xp or an older operating system?looks like you may have some hardware issues.download ultimate boot cd from this link.Follow the directs to burn the image to disc.Boot from the CD and run memtest to check your memory, then run any of the hard drive diagnostic tools from the hard drive manufacturer.Let me know what happens after that.If none of the hardware fails I will recommend using one of the hard drive formatting tools to do a low level format on your hard drive and try installing the operating system again.note,if you have files that you need on the hard rive you'll lose them if you reinstall the operating system without backing them up.
