Hayward h400 (electronic ignition) does not light. Jumped our pressure & limiter switches. Change gas valve. Still not lighting. Have plenty of spark. Help!!

If you have a multi-meter check for 24 vac between OR & W at the board or on the gas valve (OR & W are the 2 wires that go to the gas valve). Check the voltage while the igniter is sparking.

Burners not burning, pilot light is off. How do I start the pilot light?


There is no pilot on this unit. It is electronic ignition.

On a call for heat, the 24 volt thermostat sends a signal to the control module. The control module will indicate a call for heat with a light on the control either blinking or remain solid depending upon model. The inducer (exhaust) blower will purge all gasses from the furnace and pressurize a pressure switch. Once the pressure switch tells the module to continue, the electronic ignition will energize and send 120 volts to the igniter. The igniter will glow and you will be able to see it if viewed thru the small inspection port. Once the igniter gets hot enough, it sends a signal to the module opening up the gas valve (24 volts). Either a pilot will come on or the burner tube will ignite then spread the flame to all burners. What could go wrong? I have a Rudd furnace model UGRA-04EMAES in heating cycle inducer makes pressure switch ignitor lites up no gas pressure i rplaced gas valve and board still no gas. Wat next?


Well first you want to verify that there is gas pressure coming from the connector. Turn off the valve and disconnect the connector. Then turn on the valve for 1 second and back off. You should get plenty of gas flow. Be careful doing this!. Then inspect the opening at the adapter to the control. There is a screen inside there. Make sure the screen is clear(not plugged with pipe dope,lint ect). When the igniter reaches the 2200 degrees you should hear the gas solenoid valve click open releasing gas. If you hear it click and no gas is released you will need to inspect the burner orfices. The orfice has an extremely small hole and there is a posibillity that they are plugged with debris. You will need to use a very small wire(like a tie strap) and insert it into each hole and see if there is anything in the orfice. If you do not hear the gas valve click then it might not be getting the signal it needs due to a weak igniter or flame rectification sensor. Does your furnace have a stand-by pilot that is lit by the hot surface igniter or does the igniter directly light the burner assembly?

Goodman unit. when i turn it on the blower fan and the exhaust fan comes on butit does not lite no flames at all. i don't even hear the gas click in.

Having problems with Carrier 58RAV furnace. Goes through the motions, but gas never turns on. I think it is a problem with the LPGS. Please advise. Thanks

The furnance runs fine for about 3min. Then the burners go out. The fan limit is still closed, pressure switch is pulled in, and the manuel reset switch on the flue is not tripped. What's causing the...

The exhaust blower starts for about 15 seconds then shuts off. several minutes later, the same thing happens - over and over


goodman furnance the exhaust fan starts, igniter glows hot, all burners lite up & will burn for about a minute and shuts down . I think it senses the room blower does not start so it shuts down.

Blower turns on when stat calls for heat but manifold is not being ignited (do not hear gas valve even trying to release gas). No spark either. Could it be insufficent gas pressure?


Here is the ignition sequence for a spark ignited furnace. This will help you understand what is happening/not happening.

Thermostat calls for heat.

draft inducer motor (DIM) starts drawing draft through heat exchanger.

Pressure switch detects proper operation of DIM, and sends signal to board to begin ignition.
(it detects negative pressure)

Ignitor starts ignition attempt and gas valve sends gas to burners.

Upon ignition, flame sensor detects flame and sends signal to board stopping ignition sequence and continuing gas flow for heat mode operation until thermostat is satisfied.

During this sequence the blower motor is brought on, and by using a series of temperature limit switches, the system assures that the unit is operating properly.
(If the blower is not operating, or the airflow is inadequate, the heat exchanger will overheat and trip one or more temp limit switches.)

There is also a "rollout" switch that detects improper flame pattern "rolling out" into the controls compartment.

Now, to apply that to your situation.

If you have no spark, than the failure is happening before the gas is supposed to be flowing.

That usually means a failure at the D.I.M. Typical causes for that are a clogged flue pipe/vent, damaged/deteriorated fan blades, bad fan, or bad pressure switch.

If one of the temp limit switches or rollout switches have tripped, it will simply shut off the system.
(Some units will turn on the blower motor and shut down everything else.)

You can try resetting the unit by disconnecting power for 1 minute, and attempting a restart.

First look for any flashing LED lights. If you see any locate the wiring schematic (usually on the inside of the front panel) and look for the flash codes.

If the reset does not solve the problem, let me know what flash code you are getting, and/or let me know exactly what you see the furnace doing, in detail, after the restart.

Furnace blowing cold air


Hello , I think I can help , It sounds like the gas valve as long as your sure there is plenty of gas going to the unit and you have an electronic ignitor , if there is a pilot light its not electronic. the gas valve should come as an assembly to install and its pretty easy to complete.
