Depending on the model number, most samsungs can get by with just replacing the misc. power deflection board. But need the model number in order to help you further. Please post your model number , respond to this same post when replying.

Sony KP-57WS5610 Blue light will not converge the blue is offset from everything else on the screen so its like a blue shadow Any ideas on whats wrong

Projection TV sets have two very common problems. One is convergence ( 3D/Warped video) the other is CRT fluid ( Dull Video). Below are more details for both items. Also, complete repair kits with instructions and repair support are avail from site such as www.TvRepairKits.com

Common Problem #1) Convergence has gone out

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then yourconvergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on. The power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some pics of convergence problems.

What you will need to do is convergence. You can get a repair kit fromTvRepairKits.com . It includes replacement parts, step by step instructions, support, etc.

Common Problem #2) CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

What you will need to do is replace the coolant and clean the crt. You can get a repair kit from TvRepairKits.com . It includes replacement coolant, step by step instructions, support, etc.

Samsung rear projection tries three time then goes

There are several things in this set that will cause this. I have ran into this problem 40-50 times on that specific unit. Most common problem is the lamp. Next most common problem is the DMD board which is a very expensive repair. Next most common cause is the ballast which powers the lamp. Next is the color wheel but usually that gets noisey before it fails. These DLP televisions aren't easy to diagnose but they're easy to work on. Now here's the thing, all four of these problems can be solved by replacing the light engine. If you are willing to put some money into it, the engine assembly is real easy to change. Just google the exact and complete model number and search prices of the light engine. I'm pretty sure the part number is BP96-00305J. Sometimes you can actually ship the engine from your tv in to be rebuilt. This can save you money. Any repair on this tv will probably cost 200-500 but they get a great picture. I have a samsung DLP in my livingroom. Good luck, Russmann.

On Panasonic 32LX TVs this is a known fault, repairable by a firmware upgrade. John Lewis in the UK sent out an engineer under their free 5 yr TV guarantee and completed the firmware upgrade for me. The only other store to compare with them for price and service is Richer Sounds but I believe you now have to buy the warranty for 10% of the purchase price. This problem will persist unless the upgrade is completed. For those of you in the UK, I would insist the seller repairs the problem under the Sale of Goods and Services Act as the TV is not fit for purpose without the upgrade.

Trying to turn on tv and no picture. bought new

Rulds2008 is probably right. I had the same problem, but have no TV repair shop near me. So since I have experience fixing computers, I decided to repair the TV myself. I initially repaired the Lamp, but the TV still flashed all three lights. Called Samsung and they told me that I might need to replace the ballast, but it would be best to bring it to a repair shop. The repair shop offered to come out and look at it for $150 or bring it in for $120, even though they were about 30 mins away. Ordered both parts on www.Samsungparts.com and got them in three days. Still had the three flashing lights. Took apart the entire TV (googled it on youtube) and vacuumed and dusted the TV and took apart the color wheel (about 20-30 mins). It was completed busted. Found out that if the color wheel is broken, it will not send a signal to the ballast to tell it to start up and power the lamp. So if you have replaced the lamp and/ or the ballast and it does not light up, it is more than likely that it is your color wheel (buy it on ebay or amazon, got it in three days versus a 3-4 week back order on company sites). Also, make sure the power switch on back is being pushed upwards and not downwards or the TV also will not start. Total parts cost me ($400) versus having someone else fix it and charge me double with labor and parts. TV is better than ever. Hope this helps.

Samsung tv hln567w

This was a $4000 TV 5 years ago. I own one, and it is still a very good TV. The biggest thing that can go wrong (and is worth repairing) is the light bulb can go out & it costs about $200 to replace. If anything else major goes out, it is probable better replaced than repaired.

TV Turns off

Mondern day television sets have to user serviceable parts inside them as they are all solid state and you will not ben able to look at a set and see something wrong. These sets you need specialized test equipment to troubleshoot relace and repair parts inside them. Your set suffered what alot of solid state electronics these days . A power surge will usually blow out the power supply section of a set and who knows what else. If your not a tech a TV set is not a place to be experimenting with anything .. best thing to do is call a tech to trouble shoot and give tyou an estimate. Now if you mailed in the Registration to the surge protector, and the tech writes down that this was all caused by a surge, then you shouldnt have any problems collecting what you laid out for a repair. The surge protector company,if the repair cost alot ,will contact the manufacturer to see how much the parts listed ncost and if these parts could go bad when a power surge to stop peeps from padding there bills. Make sure you get a complete itimized bill not just repaired power supply on a bill cause you wont get paid. Also make sure you call an authorized repair place for the manufacturer of your set. as its not 100% necassary, but much more legiter in the eyes of the power strip company. Good Luck
