Question about Cub Cadet Street Sign- tractor lawn riding mower parts

I had my mower sitting on an Incline while turned off. When I started it again, after about 2 hrs, the forward and reverse make a grinding noise and do not work, the wheels are locked, even when I have the manual push stem pulled out. my machine is a LTX 1045. Rmccaffrey@mesadesigngroup.com

I have pulled it to level ground...will wait until morning...with low fluid, the wheels would be locked?....as I pulled it to a level place, I had to drag the fixed rear wheels.

The manual says that the hydrostatic transmission ismsealed at the factory, fluid can not be checked or changed. How do I address this...where is fill point for transmission?

  • rmccaffrey Mar 13, 2011

The premium answer I received regarding my Cub Cadet LTX1450 suggested that I replenish the hydrostatic transmission fluid in order to unlock my drive wheels...my owner's manual states that the hydrostatic reservoir is factory sealed and can not be checked or filled. The rear wheels are locked in place and when I press the forward or reverse pedal, there is a grinding noise...no movement. There has been no trauma or event with my machine...it only has 18 hrs on it...this happened after sitting on about a 15% incline for about 2 hrs.

I followed the second recommendation and took it to the dealer. It seems that the problem is in the factory sealed hydrostatoic. My machine only has 11 hrs on it. Thank you for you suggestions.

Yes you are correct:---- This type of transmission is sealed and does not have a hydrostatic fluid fill or drain plug. Have your Cub Cadet tractor serviced by a trained technician if you experience problems with the hydrostatic transmission. The transmission assembly needs to be disassembled and inspected.--------------

Make sure the belt is in the groove of all of the pulleys. They are good about coming off the pulley on top of the transmission.
Pulling of the released wire allows the transmission fluid to drain within the transmission so that the tractor can be pushed.
--------- If the belt is on correctly and is not off of any of the pulleys, and the lever that you pull out to disengage the transmission is working correctly then you have internal transmission problems. Make sure when you move the lever to engage it that it is connected to the lever on the transmission and that it is moving. ---------- This should help.Keep updated.Thanks.Helpmech.

In that case check the park brake caliper and lock.If they are blocked/jammed or seized.
Try to release it and it should move freely.Give a gentle whack from a persuader to get it to come free if its very hard.--------Check out.Keep updated.Thanks.

The reason for this issue is the hydrolic fluid drained from the cylinders and you need to check the fluid level, refill and you will have to work the handles until it refills the cylinders.

Hello rmc... these mowers have a hydrostatic transmission which rely on transmission fluid to operate.

Get your mower sitting on the level and leave it for a couple of hours and then check the transmission level. If it is low, add fluid. Always keep these mowers transmission fluid slightly over full for best performance of the transmission. Joe

Thanks for choosing Fixya!

Won't Fully Engage Drive Gears

If the machine has been sitting idle for a period of time it is probable that the cutter spindles have failed / rusted bearings. They suffer from wet grass/ water seepage when working and when let stand idle for a time will rust up the balls in the bearings. Loosen the drive belts and see if the cutters can be turned freely by hand .

What is it when in reverse the automatic transmission on a 1999 Camaro grinds?

Reverse is not "synchronized" forward gears are, so it does make some noise, try shifting to 2nd before engaging reverse to slow gear rotation and limit gear clash or grind.

Have your rear brakes checked. It might be a brake wear indicator. Or your rear brakes are stuck on the brake drum.

John Deere L120 transmission high pitch noise and no forward move

Try jacking the unit up. Start it up and try moving pushing the forward and reverse back and forth and see if it does it then. It sounds like an oil way in the hydrostatic unit has a check valve stuck. Of course make sure that the fluid lever is up. Hope this will help you. donnyb60
