Sanyo plc-wtc500l, intermittent problem. Unit will shut down completely in middle of a showing. Unit is ceiling mounted. Uni will show no power {red light}, but 110v are at the unit. We pull fuse, wait for a hour, replace fuse the unit will fire. 2 year old unit with no other problems. Will work for a long period of time {2-3 mos], then, act up again. thanks for any suggestions. Solution was not acceptable. Over temp light was not blinking, but, solid red. Light would disappear upon power off. Projector would momentarily start, then shut down with a solid red light. Sanyo says ship to them for warranty work. Jim

Suspect shut down due to an over-temperature condition. Owner's Manual page 69 shows WARNING TEMP indicator at the top left which would be blinking on an over-temperature shut-down. In an over-temperature condition the manual states that the following should be done....
- Did you provide appropriate space for the projector to be ventilated?

Check the installing condition to see if the air vents of the projector are not blocked.

- Has the projector been installed near an Air-Conditioning/Heating Duct or Vent?

Move the installation of the projector away from the duct or vent.

- Is the filter clean? Clean the filter periodically or replace it with a new one.

However, if the WARNING TEMP lights red (steady) then an abnormal condition has been detected....

When the projector detects an abnormal condition, it will be automatically shut down to protect the inside of the projector and the WARNING TEMP. indicator lights red. In this case, unplug the AC power cord and plug it, and then turn on the projector once again to verify operation. If the projector cannot be turned on and the WARNING TEMP indicator lights red, unplug the AC power cord and contact service.

Finally, the POWER indicator which is at the bottom right of the group of indicators would blink after the lamp has turned off but the fans would still be running during a critical cool-down period where the AC must not be disconnected until the indicator stops blinking (is steady).

If you do not have access to the manual, one can be downloaded from at this link...

After lamp replacing on Sanyo PLC-XP46 the projector starts up and immediately shuts down. Lamp counter was reset.

Check the iris door, it opens and closes freely. If dust has clogged it up, it will not stay on. Also check the air filter and the fan, if they are dirty, it will shut down as well. If your manual does not show any diagrams of the unit, post a comment and I will look it up. Hope this helps.

Projector turns off after 5 seconds

You have a classic temp sensor problem. Its a fail safe on theprojector, basically a fuse that bridges the main power cables. Lookslike a little pot, With a white ceramic head.
Now what it does, Is the white ceramic head rises as the unit getshotter, and thus breaks the power circut. All you need to do is, openup the unit, locate the sensor (its mounted next to the lamp on yourprojector) And push the little white head back down, thus closing thecircut, and restoring power supply.
Here is the full repair schematic to guide you. :)

Sanyo PLC-XF46N projector shuts down before powering up completely

The Fix Ya rep suggested that I try the "Reset" button located next to the Audio out on the side of the projector; this solution proved to be the fix I needed. I was able to get the lamps to warm up and get into the menu to cut back the bulbs/power consumption on start-up, allowing the projector to function for a problem-free 4 hour period Unfortunately, I had the same issue this morning, but the same fix worked again.

The filters are starting to show their age. This is a normal occurance for projectors and is the result of heat. The filters and/or the mirrors might need to be changed.
