Hi

This lack of suction can be caused by a simple clog or by poor maintenance and care. By performing basic repairs as well as routine maintenance, users can increase vacuum cleaner suction, resulting in faster, easier cleanup. The filter on a vacuum cleaner must be cleaned or replaced frequently to avoid a loss of suction. Some models feature removable filters that can be cleaned by passing them under water or simply brushing them off. Others require replacement rather than cleaning. Adding new or cleaned filter is a sure way to increase vacuum cleaner suction.

Upright models often utilize a rubber belt to rotate the beater brushes and collect dirt. Over time, this belt can wear or break, reducing suction power and leaving the vacuum unable to clean effectively. Users should check this belt and replace it as needed to maximize cleaning power. In some instances, simply turning the belt inside out can help the vacuum clean effectively for an extended period until a new belt can be found.

SOURCE: Vacuum Problem

The Bissell can have several filters in it, depending on the model. Some have a round hepa filter that is covered with a foam sleeve. This filter is located at the bottom of the dirt cup. Others have a foam filter that is located under the dirt cup in a pull out drawer. Also, they can have a cylindrical separator above the dirt cup which can be removed and washed. They are usually a blue plastic and you reach in and turn it a 1/4 turn counter-clockwise to remove. If your machine has the hepa filter, when you remove the dirt cup, the filter is at the bottom and you turn the bottom 1/4 turn and the clear housing will come off to access the filter. You should also check the small filter on the machine just below where the cup sits. This will only be there if your machine has the hepa filter on it.

What causes poor suction on model ud40270? It seems like a lot of air is blowing out the front where the filter is.

Susan:

First, remove and clean or replace all of the filters in the machine. There is an inlet filter above the dirt collection cup. and an exhaust filter at the front lower part of the top of the vacuum head. If either filter is clogged, you'll get poor suction. Also lay the machine on it's back, and check the tunnel where the dirt goes up into the machine (behind the beater bar) to see that it is not clogged.

Low suction is either a clogged pipeline (very rare), a broken or open inlet valve in the system, a clogged hose or wand system, a clogged washable filter, the small screen behind the filter when removed needs cleaned, or the motor itself. Would need more detailed info. to pinpoint but hope it helped!

Valve sucks in and hoover loses suction

Your vacuum may have a suction release valve that is opening up because there is a clog or restriction somewhere.

Why would the vacuum have no suction?

if the motor is running it could be a belt a clog or a hole somewhere else in the hose

Would a clogged hepa filter cause the vacuum to stop picking up dirt? There's suction on the hose when I checked it.

Generally the Hepa filter is a bypass filter in which there is another filter on the unit. Check to ensure that the belt is allowing the rollers to turn the brush. Just suction on the line won't pick up deep dirt unless you allow to sit in place.

The suction motor is not working, just the power head

Please be more detailed? What brand? one or two motors?
If power is working with no suction. could be a clog or bad filter if -
and if it is a bagless unit - there is usually more than one filter - if filter is clogged you will use alot of suction!
9 times out of 10 it is usually a filter or clogged.

My eureka 437 stopped sucking

Hello,
I believe the filter on your vacuum is clogged. Bagless vacuums require the filter be brushed or washed and dried, If they are not, the filter will clog, resulting in the reduction of suction. Clean filter about every 3 months or sooner if the same problem happens again. Hope this helps.

Either the hose has a clog, or the inlet down by the belt is clogged. Is there suction at the end of the hose, if not then it is clogged. If there is suction, then it has to be clogged down below by the brush roll, check that inlet. There also is a filter at the bottom where the dirt cup (and bag) is, check it also.
