Good day i have mother board asus p5800-mx the usb port cannot work theirs no 5 volts in the port, pleas help me to resolve my problem thanks.

Ashley,

A) There are two USB headers on the motherboard.
They are rectangular in shape, and Blue in color.

One is to the immediate Right of the 3 white PCI slots.
Has 4 pins across the Top row, and 5 pins across the Bottom row.
May have USB56 printed on the motherboard next to it.

The second one is at the Bottom of the motherboard, below the Intel 82801EB southbridge chip; which is to the left of the CMOS battery.
May have USB78 printed next to it

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Asus-P5P800-MX-Socket-775-MotherBoard-NEW-865GV-/221041609289?pt=UK_Computing_LaptopMotherboards_CPUs_CA&hash=item33771b4a49

(Turn motherboard photo 90 degrees to the Left, to be as it sits in your computer case)

EACH USB header supports TWO USB ports.

A Card Reader uses ONE USB header, with it's two cables.

Point?
Front Panel USB ports, are connected to one of those blue USB headers.
This USB header you know to be bad.
If the other USB header is not being used, connect to it.

The front of your computer is the Front Panel.
The USB ports in the Front Panel, should be connected by one common cable, and it ends in a plug on connector.

No? Not feasible?
Then suggest using a USB adapter card, in an open white PCI slot,

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=5606148&CatId=511

Product details indicate it has two internal USB headers.
This way you can connect the Front Panel USB ports to it.

Choose ANY O/S, and then download the manual.

Or, here is the direct link to the motherboard manual (PDF file),

How do I access my photo's on my old computer that has noplace to add a connection?

does the old computer have USB ports??? if it does than it's just a matter of connecting a USB stick and transfer the photos to it... you could also use a USB external hard drive, or a USB flash card reader, also a USB camera (the kind that taks pictures) not a web cam!!! you could even connect a Cell phone or Black berry equiped with a SD card and use those devices as a drive to transfer the files as well... you could also use the old computer to e-mail the files to your own e-mail and pick them up with an other computer by loging on to your e-mail account and save them... you could even take out the old computer's hard drive and install it in an other computer and transfer the files... When there's a will there's a way (or relatives) LOL!

Cheers!

When i open the mp3 on the computer, it says that there are many music files on it, and when i open the mp3 by itself, it registers like five songs out of the total 45

Try doing the following:

  1. Insert the memory on the computer using a memory card reader.
  2. Check the free space of the memory: Right Click on the drive (D: / F: /E)
  3. If it says zero (0) space available but you can't see any file on this try downloading and installing USBshow

I hope this information will be helpful. Thank you for using FixYa!

I want to transfer all my word perfect files from my 2000 computer to my laptop, however, i dont have a clue as to how to begin. HELP!DIAN

there are a bunch of ways you can get this done ... depending on your computers ...
Does your computer from 2000 hook up to the internet? If so, you can e-mail yourself the files through whatever e-mail program you have. You can "attach" the files to an e-mail and download them that way. Depending on the number and size of the files, you could also copy and paste the text into e-mails ... but this would require you to copy and paste them back into documents on your laptop when you are done. You could also use a file backup service, uploading your documents there and then downloading them onto your laptop.
If you cannot hook your old computer up to the internet, then you still have some options. Do you have a CD writer on your old computer? If so, you can write all of your documents to a CD and then use that to put them onto your laptop (if your laptop has a CD drive). This would also give you a permanent backup for your files .. which is always nice. If your laptop does not have a CD drive, then you can take the CD to a local library and upload them to the internet and download them to your laptop that way. Just let the person at the information desk at the library know that this is what you are doing so they don't think you are uploading viruses or something (a lot of librarians get nervous when they see someone uploading a lot of stuff to the internet and it is easier to let them know up front than trying to defend yourself later -- I have faced this issue before ... ha ha ha)
If you don't have a CD drive on your old computer ... does it have a floppy drive? If so, you can do the same as with a CD, but using floppy disks -- newer laptops don't usually have floppy drives, so you would likely have to go to a library to upload them to the internet and download them to the laptop.
If you have a USB jack on your old computer, you can also use a USB flash drive to transfer the files -- just upload them to the USB drive, then hook the drive up to your laptop and download them. If you don't have a USB drive, you can get one for very little money (you won't need a lot of storage for word documents -- a 1 GB flash drive will be MORE than enough no matter how many documents you have)
There are other ways to get this done, but you will likely be able to use one of the above procedures to help you out. If not, please leave a comment and I'll do what I can -- please include some more information with your comment: 1. What OS do you use on each computer (Windows, Linux, Mac, Unix), 2. What drives does each computer have (CD-R, floppy drive, etc.), 3. Do you have a home network that is hooked up to both computers?

I have just bought a Maxell USB Slim 4G to download files to, but I am not sure that I have bought the correct stick. Is it compatible with a normal USB port? Please advise, Many thanks Pam

Yes this product is compatible with a normal USB port. If your computer is not recognizing the drive when you plug it into your computer wait 1 minute for you computer to find it, if it still does not recognize it try using a different port and updating your USB drivers.

This is my first time building a computer. When I turn the computer on, I get a screen that reads: "Boot Block Compatible Version Ver.022 Bad BIOS checksum. Starting BIOS recovery... Checking...

My first thought is that you have a defective motherboard. I've never seen so many things going wrong except when the board was a dud. It sounds like the BIOS ROM or its interface circuitry is bad. If this board is still under warranty you can probably get it replaced. Try the vendor first. If you bought your board from a company like TigerDirect or Newegg, they're pretty good about replacing defective parts. Then check the manual or Asus website to see what you need to do if the vendor won't exchange it. I have used this same board (purchased from TigerDirect) in a couple of systems, and they went together without a hitch.

Once you've got a working motherboard, it should be pretty much smooth sailing with the rest of the assembly. Good luck and thanks for using Fixya! Please post a followup to let me know when you get your system running.

I cannot print from the computer.

On the File menu, there should be an option to print. So you just use the mouse to click File, click print, then choose your printer and setup the page, etc. and choose print or ok.
If you're having other problems, please see this link and this link for xp and this link for vista.

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread.
If I've managed to answer your question or solve a problem, please take just a moment to rate this post....thanks!
