I have an Epson R1800 with severly clogged nozzles. Using a tutorial we found on this site, we removed the unit and cleaned the nozzles, reassembled the printer taking great care to get everything correct. The printer turns on, when I send a print job to the printer, the carriages goes all the way to the left and the printer turns itself off. I found many references to this occuring in the epson after cleaning on the internet but have yet to find the solution. Can you help us?

  • Laura Boetto Mar 13, 2011

Thank you for your help, but I don't believe this would work on my printer. My printer is an Epson R1800, it doesn't have a ribbon cartridge nor a pause button. Please help!

  • Laura Boetto Mar 13, 2011

I'll give this a try and get back to you. We haven't tried turning the computer on without the cartridges. It's late here so will be a few hours til we can try, but I will let you know. I hope this works!

  • Laura Boetto Mar 13, 2011

That didn't work. There must be something that resets the machine??? Do you have any other suggestions? Please.

  • Laura Boetto Mar 13, 2011

No luck, let me give you a little more information that may allow you to help me.

After replacing the printhead and powering up the printer, before or after it is connected to the computer, when asked to print the internal printer test page (or any page from the computer), the carriage moves all the way to the left and the printer powers off. We have tried cartridges in, restarts, all of the ideas you have sent us. Please help.

  • Laura Boetto Mar 13, 2011

I appreciate your help, but it appears this is not working either. The carriage does not appear to be jammed, it moves freely. The problem is that the computer carriages moves when you send a print job to the printer, carriage moves to the left, computer turns itself off. There must be some way of resetting the printer. Have you dealt with this problem before?

  • Laura Boetto Mar 14, 2011

That didn't work, have a new USB cable I tried and several other ones, no luck. Thanks for trying so hard. I wish I could get this fixed.

  • Laura Boetto Mar 14, 2011

I have tried all of the above to no avail. There must be some sort of reset button installed by Epson that needs to be reset or something like that. Any more ideas?

Also try to clean the print head manually by removing the cartridge and rub the print head into a plain paper with rubbing alcohol until ink flow. Then try the print nozzle for 2-3 times.

If not, dip the print head into a hot water for 3-5 minutes and then run the prin nozzle for 2-3 times

  • Benjamin Jr Singson Mar 13, 2011

A hard reset of the printer may clear the error. Here is how to perform the hard reset:
    1.Shut down the computer. 2
.Open the top cover of the printer and remove the print cartridges.
3.Close the top cover of the printer.
4.Press the power button on the printer to turn the printer off.
5.Disconnect the communications, (USB or Parallel), cable from the back of the printer. 6.Disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer for one minute.
7.Reconnect the communications cable to the printer.
8.Reconnect the power cable to the printer.
9.Press the printer power button to turn the printer on.
10.Open the top cover and reinsert the print cartridges.
11.Close the top cover and print the calibration page.
    12.Restart the computer.

  • Benjamin Jr Singson Mar 13, 2011

If not, I suggest you replace the power cord also and change the power supply.

If not, the carriage of the printer gets jammed, Open the cartridge door and turn off the printer, Now move the print head using your hand froom left to right and from right to left gfot 3 times. Return is to original position and then close the cartridge door and turn on the printer. If should work fine right now.

If still not working, use a grease oil or WD40 sprayer to clean the carriage. Use you hand again to move the print head from left to right and vice versa

  • Benjamin Jr Singson Mar 14, 2011

I had experience this long time before and oly now I remember that you try to replace or use USB cable connection and then re-add the printer again. After then it prints fine

  • Benjamin Jr Singson Mar 14, 2011

Try to borrow from a friend other USB cable and power cord to check if there are the problems. Usually when printer stops and turn off. It is cause by communication error.

Try uninstalling the printer driver and reinstall it again and then re add again the printer.

Try also this printer diagnostic utility that might help solve your problem. http://www.out-of-warranty.com/print-dia...

Hi there,

Try to disconnect the printer from the computer and shutdown both (printer and computer) for a minute. Then plug everything back and try to printer again. If this does not work, try to turn on printer, take out the cartridges and restart the printer without them. If the printer ask for the cartridges, put them back and restart the printer. After it initialize, try printing again.

Hi

Head cleaning is mechanical process, printing is electrical process. If nothing at all ink out/spray from head in printing process, problem with electricity. Damage board or short circuit at head cable. Check board first, may be some component "burn". It is suggested to contacted Epson customer support before further damage occurs.

Please check this bellow tutorial for more details of print head cleaning:-

http://ftp.epson.com/htmldocs/sc880_/sc880_u1/MAINT_2.HTM

However check the link bellow for the user guide to your printer, kindly go through it where it gives detailed instructions of various problems along with cleaning of printhead, may be you have performed something wrong to assemble/install the printer after cleaning the print head or some connection problem.

    Hi

Turn the printer off and remove the ribbon cartridge. Once the cartridge is removed, slide the print head all the way to the right side of the printer carriage. Look into the printer, on the bottom left side you should see a small white lever. Push down on the lever to make sure it is still connected, then gently move the lever from side to side a few times. Next, take a hold of the print head and move it all the way to the left, then back to the right. Move the print head left to right five times, then position the printhead into the middle of the printer. Hold down the ALT + PAUSE on the front of the printer. Keep holding these buttons down as you power-on the printer. Release the buttons after the printer emits one long beep. The printer should initialize properly. If you are still having problems, repeat the above steps. If the problem still persists, have the printer taken in to be serviced.

My printer not printing out all the words from a letter I have drafted

You are not very clear in saying what you mean.
Are the words completely missing from the printed doc?
Is it the same for all docs? Are the words there but not very clear? First run printhead cleaning. Its in your driver, probably under maintenance. Pixels in the printhead can become blocked especially if using compatable inks. The wiper on the ink station may have muck on it. To clean it first remove the battery if connected. Ask the printer to print something and as soon as the carriage moves pull out the mains adaptor so it stops in mid travel. Open the cover and slide the carriage fully to the left side. Shine a torch to the right side and you will see the ink station (purge unit). Use a dry cotton bud to gently wipe the small wiper rubber clean of debris. Replug and turn on and see if clear now. If still poor then a new purge unit is required. Basically that's the end of the printer as almost impossible to change the purge on its own (although available). Its best to change the whole print unit as one. That will cure ALL ills. Of course the printhead can be changed on its own. Remove it to see if anything stuck on the base of the head. Don't use chemicals to clean it ,just water and kitchen roll.

How do you replace ask2000 printhead

Normally you can follow these given steps..It can be different for different model.....

Turn on the unit, and open the print-carriage access door by lifting the handle until the door locks into place.

The print carriage will move to the center of the unit. After the print carriage stops, release the gray print carriage latch and lift upward to access the printheads.

Remove the old printhead by lifting the printhead handle and pulling upward.

Being careful to touch only the black plastic remove the new printhead from the packaging and gently remove the plastic tape.

Using the printhead handle, push the new printhead firmly down into the appropriate slot; matching the color on the top of the printhead to the color on the printhead carriage.

Move the print carriage latch down, and make sure the loops catch the hooks. Snap the latch into place, and close the print carriage access door.

After the message to align the printheads appears in the front panel display, press Enter . A page prints to confirm alignment.

Will not print black despite full ink cartridges have cleaned etc etc

It sounds like a blocked print head. You would need to try another one but before you do. Ask the machine to print something. when you hear the carriage moving kill the power. You can now move the carriage to the left side of the machine. Look into the right side with a torch and you will see two squares with rubber edging. these are the filters to the purge until. The left one is for black and right for colours. You can prise out the left filter and wash it. refit and run cleaning again. If it works great if it does not then a new printhead is the answer.

If your color improved slightly when running the printhead option then doing more should help get better results. Sometime the printheads get really dirty/clogged and running the cleaning option more then once is needed.

If you get a slight line running across the page (from left to right) usually the indicates dust build up on the printhead or ink carriage. The dust acts as a paint brush being dragged across your paper as the carriage moves across the page during printing. You can clean the bottom of the carriage with a Q-tip or purchase some cleaning paper for your printer.

Is the print head moving at all?

Turn power off and see if you can gently move the printhead carriage or turn the carriage belt pulley on the left. If it moves freely without the carriage moving. Thats your problem.

There is a rubber mounted belt connector under the printhead carriage that often breaks when the slide is too dry from lack of lubrication.

I called hp to get the part. No part available. so I repaired the part with epoxy. Not an easy fix.

Okidata 320/420 printhead not printing aligned.

Clean the large silver rod that runs through the carriage. It is dirty and not allowing the carriage to move as freely as it should. Ideally it should be left dry. Also change the ribbon. The same motor drives the carriage and the ribbon. If it has a bind, the same thing can happen. Hope it helps Ed
