Question about Toshiba Computers & Internet
The HDMI connector at your laptop is output. The HDMI connector at the DVD player is an output also. So it's out of the question to connect two outputs, you may want to use the HDMI output from the dvd player to be connected at a tv or screen with HDMI input.

You cannot connect a Laptop to DVD player using HDMI, as it is an output for Digital Video.
The HDMI in DVD Player is also an output for Digital Video.
Can you exactly tell me why you are connecting your laptop to a dvd player. I might be able to provide you a better optimized solution.
You usually use HDMI cable to connect laptop to an LCD/Plasma screen for bigger and better video output.

SOURCE: how to connect/configure my acer
for HDMI, I guess you just connect it with HDMI cable to your LCD TV, and use the FN+F5 or F6 to switch display from laptop's LCD to external. I think it should be the same way as using projector.

1) Look at your laptop computer to see if
you have an HDMI cable port. This port is roughly half an inch wide and
provides both the HD audio and video signal. If you don't, you are going to use
a DVI port on the laptop. This is the same port you use to connect monitors to
2) Plug the DVI-to-HDMI adapter into the DVI port on the laptop with the
Blu-ray player. If you have an HDMI port on your laptop, you can skip this
3) Connect an HDMI cable to the HDMI end of the adapter. If you have an
HDMI port, plug the cable directly into the HDMI port.
4) Plug the other end of the HDMI cable into the HDMI port on the HD
television. Power on your television, press the "Input" button and
select "HDMI." You can now see the contents from your Blu-ray player
on the TV.
