My whirlpool dryer makes a horribly loud racket. Is the idler pulley or the tension pulley

There is only 1 pulley in most driers, so the idler and the tension pulley are the same part. The idler pulley is on the tension arm, located beneath the drum. A squealing sound is usually associated with the pulley. If it is a slapping or thumping sound it may be the belt, which goes around the drum and the motor shaft. The part numbers are on the parts, or you can order by model. The idler is less than $10.

Replacing idle roller pulley

Hi vlzadra...
Your Idle pulley will attach at the bottom of the dryer... it will go into a slot and look for slight wear marks on one of the slots to install your idler pulley.
I will send you a drawing of how to route the belt and it will show the location of the idler pulley attached to the dryer base
Please rate me

I am trying to replace a belt but can not locate where is the idler pulley and bracket on model WED5300VW? Where can I find a diagram?

The idler pull must have fallen out of its place which is directly below drum on bottom of machine. A diagram can be found on most parts suppliers web page, enter model and model #.

Trying to change the belt on a whirlpool dryer cant work it out

The belt will loop around the drum, run to the idler arm with pulley, and then to the motor.
If you hook it up reverse, motor, idler arm and then drum it should solve your problem.
Be sure to put the idler arm with pulley in the right location and hook the spring in the right location...look for some wear indicators on the spring, frame, and idler arm with pulley.
Check this website out, they have dryer repair manuals, they may have what you need:

Good Luck,
I hope this helps

Belt drum replacement

If this is a Whirlpool manufactured dryer (which inlcudes Kenmore, Roper, Estate, Kitchenaid, and Frigidaire), just follow these steps:

a. Loop the drive belt around the dryer drum with the groove side facing the drum. (Try to line the belt up with the wear marks already on the drum from the previous belt).

b. With the tensioner in your left hand, insert the clip end of the idler pulley into the grooves on the dryer bottom casing with the idler wheel pointing to your left. (The grooves are directly in front of the drive motor.)

c. While holding the tensioner in place, insert the belt UNDER the wheel with your right hand and pull it up and over the drive motor pulley.

If this does not explain it well enough, you can also verify by going to repairclinic.com. Click on the Repair Help link and look for the "Dryer Belt Diagrams" link under the Special Features section on the next page. Look for Whirlpool and locate diagram H.

NOTE: It is normal for the idler pulley to come loose when there is no belt tension.

If your dryer is not manufactured by Whirlpool, or if you simply aren't sure, please post back with your model number so I can give you more accurate information. I hope you find this helpful.

Whirlpool dryer froze and wont tumble just makes noise where try

Hi, This dryser only has 1 belt. When you chacked the belt, was the belt located in the middle of the drum?
This model has an idler pulley that is no longer being used. They have went back to the roller style idler which is easier on the belt.
Raise the top and then remove the 2 screws holding the front to the cabinet. Remove the front cabinet and locate the idler next to the motor pulley. Look at the belt while you have the front off and see if there is any bad spots in it.
I hope this helps you. Please let me know if I can assist you further.

Whirlpool estate model teds780jqo how do i get the tension in the arm when changing the belt does the spring arm go above or below the pully on the motor

Hi. The idler pulley assembly locks into two slots in front of the motor. The belt will loop through the idler pulley and the on the motor. Push the belt under the idler wheel and thread it between the wheel and the idler bracket.I hope this helps you. Please let me know if I can assistyou further.

My Whirlpool dryer belt broke.

You should be able to reuse the idler pulley unless it is physically broken.
The idler pulley fits in the slots on the bottom of the cabinet (in front of the motor) with the wheel or glide facing the left side. Place the belt (grooves inward) around the drum. Pull the belt through the middle of the idler pulley from the left side and loop it around the motor pulley.
