Question about InFocus ScreenPlay 5000 Multimedia Projector

1 Answer

My InFocus SP5000 projector does not power up instead the power button flickers to the beat of a rapid ticking sound which is coming from the speaker on the projector. The lamp does not illuminate nor does the unit itself power up. The LED indicator next to the power button does not light either. I know I'm due for a lamp replacement but don't want to spend the money on a new one if this is not the root cause to the problem. Will a bad power supply alone cause this issue?

Before I changed a lamp (expensive) I would try these techniques:
Clean the fan filter under the unit. It is little porous pad under a vent. Vacuum it or Wash it, let it dry THOROUGH:LY replace it with a factory filter, or make a new one out of garden variety air conditioner filter material. Reseat the filter and the cover.
Plug in power cord.
Restart projector. Hold down "on" button and see if it lamps up. If not, press "off" button and attempt to restart. It might have gone into a thermal shut down mode due to a clogged fan filter. I do a/v presentations and have encountered these issues on the road and I always try this simple fix first. I also always carry a spare projector.

Just wondering if randyvee's projector problem was fixed. Mine is doing exactly the same thing. About a month ago the unit shut down because of a filter issue. When I took the filter out to clean it, it was disintegrating. I ordered a new one, replaced it, and today tried to get it going again, but I'm encountering what randyvee explained. Alright, back to the drawing board :o)

I have an InFocus SP5000 that the DVI port isn't working on. How can this be fixed or is it worth fixing.

what's wrong with it? if you are not getting a signal, first swap cables, reset the settings to factory default, and make sure the resolution matches the source. if all else fails, send it in to an infocus service center. it may just be a plug issue or a cold solder joint. at the most, you'll have to replace the main board (which would be about $500 plus labor). try av solutions in ny. they're really good. www.avsolutionsny.com

InFocus SP5000 - high pitch noise

there isn't a colorwheel in the sp5000. it's an lcd, not a dlp. one of the fans is bad and needs to be replaced. the bearings might be going. you can get parts from an infocus service center or send it to them for repair. try av solutions in ny. they're really good. www.avsolutionsny.com

I have an InFocus SP5000 projector that has started showing a green glow in mid-screen (center). Before I buy a $300 lamp want to know the cause of the green glow.

either the light filter behind the blue lcd panel or the fly-eye lens (both inside the optical engine) have developed a burn spot from overheating. infocus doesn't sell individual parts for the optical engine, and the whole thing must be replaced. but unfortunately, it's the most expensive part of the projector, usually upwards of $2000 (and there's none in stock).

Unit will not Power Up.

Terry, I had the same problem. Its a small capacitor on the power board labelled 'C16'(right in the middle of the board) its value is 16volt 100uf.
I also changed the biggest one on the board as well( 450volt 270uf @85deg). The big one was sourced through RS components @£5.14, the other I got through a maplins store for the grand sum of 13 pence.
Both are quite easy to change if your not adverse to taking the unit apart. (Just remember where all the leads plug in).
A torx T10 screwdriver, and soldering iron is all you need.
