I'm not familiar with this specific computer, but in general, there are two ways, depending on the computer. First, remove the battery and see if there is a little opening from the battery case into the inside of the case. If so, some manufacturers place the battery right in there so you can easily change it. The other computers will need to be opened to expose the motherboard. You'll have to separate the two halves of the case and will most likely see the battery fastened to the palm rest and then plugged into the motherboard.

This is a typical sign that the CMOS battery (on the motherboard) has failed & needs to be replaced. After replacing the CMOS battery, you will need to boot into BIOS & save CMOS settings.

Replacing bios battery in evo n410c laptop

Dissemble the laptop and find bios battery. It is smaller than desktop bios battery. Usually covered by plastic wrap. Remove it and replace with new one. Observe the polarity of battery carefully.

I need to reset the bios on my Compaq TC1000. I tried removing the RTC battery and replacing as HP suggested but that didn't work, They then suggested I need to flash my bios. I cant find instructions for...

To flash the BIOS you need to download the BIOS from a link which HP provides.. so contact them and tell them to provide you with the BIOS link..
You need to download the BIOS and install it..
However after removing the RTC battery I would suggest you to hold the notebook power button for 20 secs..
This should remove all the residua power..
I think it will remove the BIOS password...
If it does not work then you could flash the BIOS..
What sayy???
:)

Clearing cmos

The BIOS battery maybe under one of the panels on the bottom of the laptop or under the keyboard.
To reset the BIOS ack to the default settings, go into the BIOS configuration and look at the various configurations, usually there is a setting to load the Default settings, then save and exit, and this would not change the Date & Time setting.
The other way to set the BIOS default setting is to remove the BIOS battery (it is probably a lithium 3volt button battery), wait 1/2 hour and replace the battery, the go into the BIOS configuration and set the Date & Time setting etc.

I need to replace a cmos in a Compaq 12xl325 laptop. Can anyone tell me how to open the case? Thanks

The CMOS/BIOS chip is part of the motherboard and cannot be replaced without specilized equipment.
Is the BIOS faulty or are you wanting to replace the BIOS battery?

Hard Drive will not boot in Compaq Presario C700

BIOS checksum errors occurs when either the BIOS chjp is faulty or most likely the BIOS battery is nearly flat and the stored info changes and doesn't match the checksum info.
Replace the battery with a new one, leave the battery out for 1/2 hour before inserting the new battery. The BIOS will be reset to the default settings, you need to configure it again eg, datr and time etc.
