Try to connect external monitor and see if there is anything there. If not-your video card went south. And you need new computer-preferably with ATI video card.Check out the mess that nVidia has done.

Laptopscreen not coming on lights and fan ok

When it is running if you hold a light up to the screen, can you see anything on the screen? What about if you connect another monitor to the computer does that work?
If you see something on the screen using a light, you have a bad inverter or back light.
If you see nothing on the screen and nothing on an external monitor, you have a bad motherboard.
If you see something on an external monitor but nothing on the laptop then you have a bad cable or display on the laptop.

Computer is not starting up and not showing any screen

your backlight behind the screen is probably burning out or you have a severe virus.

Dell inspiron 630m laptop. turned it on, programmes started up then died. turn it on now nothing on screen but there is power. no fan running all the time or overheating. think it might be the video card...

> no power
> no fan running

Remove the battery.

Disconnect the AC power adapter.
Use a "multimeter" to test the voltage/amperage output from the adapter.

Connect the AC power-adapter, and try to turn the computer on.
If nothing happens, then the computer's motherboard has "died".

Take the computer to a qualified technician, for professional trouble-shooting.

When i turn on my computer nothing pops on the screen

If you have another monitor, I would try that first.

After that, it could be the video card, so you could swap with a good one to be sure if you know how.

Last thing and probably the cause, is either a bad motherboard (most likely) or perhaps a bad cpu (less likely)

Some IT shops will let you bring it in and run some quick tests for the exact cause but my bet is the motherboard....

Hope this helps and hope I am wrong!
