Plug the controller in via USB and see if you can recreate the problem.
If yes, then it sounds like a faulty controller assuming it happens in all games and all menus.
If no, then unpair the PS3 controller by holding down the "ps" button and selecting "turn off controller" from the onscreen menu.
Then plug the controller into the PS3 using a USB cable and power it on by holding down the PS button again.

How can I use it as a camera? I have it all plugged in and installed but it won't regester as a webcam :/

Connect camera to PC with USB cable. On camera switch on and press joystick/OK to get menue on screen. Move joystick to get the set-up icon highlighted and press in OK. Use joystick down arrow to move down menue to "USB mode". Use joystick right or left arrow to change setting to PC CAM. Press OK and you should now have camera acting as a webcam.

My dualshock 3 is malfunctioning badly. Many times when I'm using the L2 trigger, it activates commands issued to the L1 button or the directional pad. How do I fix this issue?

I have had the same issue, except my issue is when I press L3 (left joystick pop in), it would malfunction the entire left side of my controller (L2, L1, and all the d-pad arrows). There are, unfortunately, very few 'good' solutions to this. The problem can lie in one of 3 different things: your controller's bluetooth is dying, your ps3 controller-receiver (its also a bluetooth chip) is dying, or both (that was the case with me). I had 2 controllers doing that, and I sent my ps3 to Sony to have it repaired (its free with a warranty, the whole process took 2 to 3 weeks) cuz they said the bluetooth receiver for the controllers (not for mic) was dying/dead. When I got my ps3 back, one of my controllers worked perfectly, and the other one (red dualshock 3, model number cechzc2u) was still malfunctioning. What Sony did was replace my ps3 motherboard. I plan to buy another controller, and save the receipt this time.

If you dont have a warranty, Sony will fix your ps3 for around $110-150, and when you get it back, it will come with a 90 day limited-warranty in case it wasn't fixed properly.

A TEMPORARY fix is to buy an aftermarket usb-plug controller, which runs on batteries and the plug goes into one of your usb slots. The problem with this, tho, is all of the aftermarket controllers have their own problems/design flaws, or unconfortable/not durable.

good luck, and I hope I helped :)

How do you set the correct time ???

Press and hold the source button until the unit turns off. Then with the power off, press and hold the multi-function control (i always call this a joystick since you can move it left, right, up or down OR press it like a button and it reminds me of old video game controllers). When you press the joystick for a moment it will bring up an initial settings menu. Scroll to the clock option and press the joystick button to enter. Use left and right to select minutes and hours and use up and down to change to the correct time and you're done. Press source again to turn the unit back on and you should be good to go. Enjoy!

Backstory (this is *possibly* important to the story): I (stupidly) attempted to "refurbish" my ps2 controller to get some more life out of it. I cleaned all the parts, including the green-board (sorry,...

First point of advice always use a contact cleaner or at worst methylated spirits to clean the printed circuit board, never water as i conducts electricity and can fry the circuitry.
If you have water trapped inside the joystick ports you can attempt to dry it by dis-asemblling the controller and attempting to dry the inside of it using a hair dryer or simply leave out for a few days.
The weird problems you are experiencing from the joysticks is most likely shoting out from water being trapped inside the joystick ports whilst an electrical current was passing through it. I hope this helps. If all else fails opt out and get a cheapo control from Ebay.

4 RED LIGHTS BLINKING ON JOYSTICK,BUT NOT WORKING

If the Joystick batteries are fully charged, and the playstation is active, pressing the playstation button on the controller should sync up a channel. If it doesn't, you may have to connect it with the USB wire until it syncs properly. We have had troubles also when a controller becomes sync'd to the wrong playstation (we have 3 in this house) and the controllers can work up to 40 feet away. So even a close neighbor's system can interfere. Once you have sync'd it with the USB wire, then it should work fine wirelessly.

Ps3 controller will not steer Motorstorm Pacific Rift anymore

Give this hard reset a shot.

Flip the controller over, and press the reset button. It's to the right of the middle-top screw ps3_controller_reset.jpg. You'll need something like a paperclip, toothpick, or something similar to push the button. Once you've reset your controller, connect it to your PS3 with a handy USB cable, and press the PS button (just like you did when you first got the controller). Now, it is paired again, and you should be OK.

Let me know if it works.

Best of luck!

Right Joystick. . .

I had this same problem with my 360 controller (after modding it, but the solution should be the same..) If you pull up on any 360 joystick it will stick the same way.

The quickest fix would be to take some sandpaper on the inside of where the joystick touches the controller shell, sand it down just enough so the joystick is moving smoothly.

More professional ways would be to cut the little piece of metal that sticks out and goes into the joystick. Just a very small amount, too much will make it hard to press the right thumbstick button.
You could also try some old fashioned grease, just a little bit on the inside, nothing noticeable from the outside.

Also make sure the controller is put back together right, I've taken apart many 360 controllers and sometimes joysticks stick when there's a wire in the wrong place and the shell won't close all the way. (The rumble motors particularly).
Hope this helped!
