How do I reinstall the Operating System on my computer? How do I reinstall the Operating System on my computer?
Select models, with Microsoft Windows, have the ability to have the Operating System reinstalled from a hidden partition built into the computer.
Note: During the process, all data stored on your computer will be overwritten. This means all your files, such as email and photos, will be erased. Therefore, we recommend making a backup of all personal data before starting the recovery process.

To start the system recovery:

  1. Restart the computer.
  2. When the Acer logo appears on the screen, press the Alt and F10 keys repeatedly.
  3. If you are prompted with a Microsoft Windows boot screen, press the Enter key.
  4. After the system recovery application has loaded, follow the prompts to reinstall the Operating System.
If the ability to reinstall from the previous method is not available or fails, recovery of the Operating System will need to be from Recovery Media. If you do not have a set of Acer Recovery Media, you may purchase the set online from the Acer Recovery Media Order Form.
Note: If your computer does not have an internal optical disc drive, an external optical disc drive will be required in order to recover the Operating System using Acer Recovery Media.
  1. Restart the computer.
  2. When the Acer logo appears on the screen, press the F12 key repeatedly to enter the computer's Boot Menu.
  3. Press the CD-ROM drive eject button and insert the disc labeled System CD.
  4. Close the CD-ROM tray.
  5. Refer to on screen instructions to select either CDROM or USB CDROM.
  6. The computer will boot from the Acer Recovery Media
  7. When prompted for the Recovery CD, remove the System CD and insert the Recovery CD.
Note: If there are multiple Recovery CDs, please insert the first of the Recovery CDs.
  8. After the system recovery application has loaded, follow the prompts to reinstall the Operating System.
Note: if your computer is unable to run the Acer Recovery process, or errors occur during recovery, please contact Acer support.

This is assuming that you are installing windows on second HDD / SSD on laptop.

1. Delete all the partitions of second HDD / SSD where you want to install windows as clean install.
2. Use AOMEI Partition assistant. I used that. You can try other software.
3. Let the disk space remain unallocated. Don't fomat.
4. Boot from windows installation media ( CD/ DVD/ USB).
5. Select this unallocated space for installation.
6. Enjoy........
Remeber that if your main OS is running on GPT (UEFI) partition scheme than you should make a EFI bootbale installation media.

Uninstall xp

I'm not quite sure what you are asking, but if you need to get Windows XP off your hard drive without retaining any of the software (that is you finish up with a clean/blank drive), you can do the following.

Before you do anything however, make backup of all your data if you can, as this process will delete everything on your computer.

Put the Windows CD in the CD/DVD drive and boot your computer from the CD\DVD drive. (You can set this in the BIOS in boot preferences or, in more recent motherboards, there is a boot option available when your system boots up (usually the F12 or F8 button in most generic motherboards, you'll have to look at the documentation). It may take a couple of tries using this method so changing the boot preference in the BIOS is the better way to go.

The setup process wil begin. Don't panic :) . Go through the process selecting the pathway that will install a fresh copy of windows (read the on-screen messages and prompts carefully if you haven't done this before).

Delete all partitions when you get to this screen (again read the screen carefully).

After deleting the partition(s) select the unpartitioned hard drive, create a new partition and format (quick or otherwise, it doesn't matter).

Once the fomat finishes completely, turn off the computer by holding down the power switch for around four seconds, or, if the PC reboots, don't give it a chance to come back on as the installaion will contnue.

You now have a blank repartitioned hard drive.

How to reformat a laptop w/o drivers available

If your hidden partition is still in tact you can use the recovery function.

When you boot up the laptop press Shift + F10 when you see the Acer screen.

If that doesn't work try CTRL + F10 or ALT +F10 or Fn to F10

If you just want to format then you'll need a boot cd from any Operating System. XP, Vista, Linux, etc.

For formating of computer

Two way of fomatting the hard drive :

First :

If you want to format a particular partition from the hard drive, follow this :

Use the disk management from the device manager or also you can just right click on the partition and select format, ok, ok.

Format is done for the particular partition.

Second :

If you want to format the whole hard drive, just insert the Operating system CD and boot ffrom the CD.

Select the install the windows, it wil copy all the necessary files and then will give you the option to select the partition where to install Operating system.

Highlight all the patition and press the key 'D' to delete and then 'L' to confirm the deletion.

Like this repeat for all the partitions, now you have all the partitions formatted.

Fomatting not possible it says write protection

Try this, It might work:

i) Try to put Pen Drive or USB in usb port and insert an Windows XP CD and try restarting start and i    think u the know procedure of formating Window XP or reload OS(let me say that i'm not formating      or reloading OS on ur system, there is small procedure over there after that u can use system            normally....)

ii) when u reach a blue screen that show all the partitions of ur system (like C: D: E:  ....), observe it     will also show ur usb partition(mention memory....) separately,,, try to use this  option :

Delete Partition by pressing D(usb partition being highlighted...) and then follow instruction .....and     now  u will see that there is no partition letter(such as D, E , F) assinged to ur usb
Now Create an partition on that by pressing C ... this will create an partition and it will retain or           give  name or lettering to it(such as D, E, F)

after this donot continue format the system, just exit from by pressing ESC button .... and ur             system will start normally, usb now u will be able format.... from now..

Thanking you,

M. Sridhar.
