Question about Belkin Basic Wireless Router

1 Answer

I switched providers so that I went from a phone-type connection to a cableTV connection. I had the Belkin router working with the phone connection and a line from my main computer into the Belkin, but with the cable connection in the other room I want it to work with only a modem connection and no computer connection. Can I do that? If so, how as it doesn't work as it is now?? Thank you. The router is a basic Belkin with Network # Belkin.3CB4

So, the router has no model no. on it. The disc that came with it says "Surf Wireless Router" and has a no. 8810-00202 under that and under that says F7D2301. Are you saying I need a new dsl wireless router for this installation?

  • cslong09 Mar 12, 2011

The model is F7d2301 v1. I need the wireless router to be in a separate room from the computers so that's why I don t want it hardwired to the computer as it was before. They told me at the cable company the wireless router should work just connected yo the modem and a power source.

you will need a dsl router to connect via wireless also are you sure the model is a belkin 3cb4 as i can find no info on it?

  • Martin Murray Mar 12, 2011

please state the exact model of the router and why do you not want a computer connected to the router, what will be connected to it?

  • Martin Murray Mar 12, 2011

now i have the exact model number i can help better. That router will work fine for allowing you to connect to wirelessly from your computer. you just need to plug the cable modem ethernet lead into the internet port on the wireless router. You will need to plug the wireless router into the computer to do the initial setup but once that is done you can unplug it. Do you have the software disc that came with the router. If so insert it in the pc while the router is connected and run the setup. This will allow you setup the router and setup the wireless connection

Btw you do have a wireless card in the pc / laptop that you are using dont you? As without one you will not be able to connect wirelessly

  • Martin Murray Mar 12, 2011

if you dont have the install cd you will need to download this http://tinyurl.com/65fo7b8 and run it

  • Martin Murray Mar 13, 2011

can i ask when you said your pc was connected via a phone line, was this a dial up connection and then you fed the internet connection to the modem to share it? If so is your intention to feed the cable connection to your router and then connect the pc to the router via cable or wireless to use the internet? If that is a good explanation of what you want to do then you need to disable internet sharing on the PC. If it isnt please explain how you originally had it set up in more detail

Here what is happen my sister law had a Belkin router that went bad she got a norther Belkin router not the same one but it a Belkin here what going on she try to hook it up and she Chang to use broadband...

The ISP modem connects to the wireless routers main port. Then connect the PC to any other port on the router.

Use the default wireless settings that Belkin provides. There is a small tag under the unit with the default information. Or, use custom settings in the web admin.

Need passwword for belkin wireless router

By default, Belkin routers do not have a password, just click on Submit to log in..But you should check check your Belkin router setup documents.

If you forgotten or lost router password cannot be recovered. It can only be reset by hard resetting the router.

Have you tried testing by bypassing your router and connecting your computer directly? If you were not able to connect, then your internet service provider should be contacted.

Set up my belkin g router

You may have to configure the belkin router depending on the type of ISP that you have.

Basically, you can do these to configure your router:

1. connect the computer to the numbered port of the router and connect the modem to the internet/WAN port.

2. turn off the modem, router and the computer for 30 seconds

3. turn on the modem first, wait for the lights to stabilize then turn on the router, wait for the lights and lastly turn on the computer.

Installation CD

I lost my installation CD and received these instructions from the Belkin Tech Support, and was able to install the Wireless N Router with no problems.
Follow the steps given below for configuring the Belkin N router manually.
- Connect the computer to the "LAN" port on the router and connect the modem to the Internet/"WAN" port, using Ethernet cables.
- Take a paper clip, insert the paper clip in the reset hole of the router and hold it for 15 seconds.
- The power light will flash and then come back "ON" solid, indicating that the router is being restored to factory defaults.
- The corresponding lights on the front of the router should be lit up.
- On the computer, check if you have an IP address in the range of 192.168.2.x.
- If not, specify a static IP address, gateway and "DNS" address by following the steps given in the link-
http://web.belkin.com/support/kb/kb.asp?a=2824
- Log on to the router web interface by typing in http://192.168.2.1, in the address bar of your browser.
- By default, the password is blank.
- Click on "Connection Type" in the left hand column under "Internet WAN" heading.

If the connection type is Dynamic (cable):

- Choose "Dynamic" and then click on "Next".
- Type in your “Host Name”, if you’re Internet Service Provider has provided it. Else, leave it blank.
- Click on "Change WAN MAC Address".
- Click on the button "Clone".
- Click on "Apply Changes".

If the connection type is PPPOE (DSL):

- Choose "PPPOE" and click on "Next".
- Enter the user name and password given by your Internet Service Provider.
- Save the settings.
- Click on the "Home" link at the top of the screen.

Internet Status should show "Connected" on the top right hand corner of the web page.

If the problem persists, please get back to us with the following information:

1. Type of connection provided by your ISP (Is it PPPOE, Dynamic or static).
2. Name of the Internet service provider (ISP).

Jimoli,

Wireless cards aren't compatible with all types of routers. For example, you use T-Mobile as your provider and purchase an iPhone.

Later on you decide to switch to Sprint, but find out you can't use your iPhone. Why? It's just a matter of provider compatibility AND the type of protocol they use.

Has my solution helped? Please let me know and don't forget to rate it!

Take care,
Chimpster
