Question about Troy-Bilt Garden

Open Question

I have troy bilt tiller super bronco model 21A-643B711, serial 1B076K60134. I bought new drive belts: forward 1916657 , 2610 (replaces old number 754-04090 in manual), reverse belt seems to work. I installed both belts, replaced all guides and guards. I checked and followed "install forward clutch cable" and "check for correct tension on foward drive belt and taking measurements on cable spring" "checking and adjusting forward drive belt tension" per manual. That all is done right. I checked all springs etc... The machine works great in reverse and the tines move regularly. The machine will not move forward and the belt feels very loose when pressed on both sides to touch idler pulley there is visual belt slack above the drive pulley that you could stick a pencil in easily. It seems like the belt is too big.

SOURCE: BELT PLACMENT ON TROY BUILT TILLER MODEL

I am assuming your belt broke and you cannot find the replacement.
I had to go to an old timer that owns his independent business and he was able to find a much better belt than the one that came on the tiller. The Belt # is 1916657 and it is 25.5 inches long and 1/2 inches wide. It also has a kevelar core that will stand up to the constant gearing up and down.

SOURCE: Yardman Rear Tine Tiller tines won't turn. Belt

I had this same problem and took the first advice about the shift fork arms being too spread apart. I took apart the gearbox apart and found that the shift fork arms did indeed spread apart overtime and with wear. I'm having a buddy weld some reinforcement to it as long as he can maintain clearance in certain areas as to not disrupt the operation. If it doesn't work then I did find the shift fork assembly part for $50, I just googled the part number, clicked on various sites, and found a better price!

Hello,

There is a tennsioner for the belt that you can loosen up to remove the belt. There is a screw that loosens up the belt tensioner.

Good luck.

Changing Drive belt On Troy Built Tiller

You have to remove the engine (4 bolts, no big problem), then remove the bolt in the center of the pulleys, then remove the pulleys. Slip the belt(s) (2 if you have the Super Bronco model) onto the pulleys, re-attach the pulleys with the bolt, re-mount the engine, and you're home free.
