Why is my replaced lcd screen not lighting up?


1) Wrong LCD screen

2) Video Cable (LCD Cable) is not connected tightly.
Motherboard side, or LCD screen side; or both.

3) IF, a screen Inverter is used, the small cable from the Video Cable, that connects to the screen Inverter; is not connected, or has a loose connection to it. (screen Inverter)

4) An LCD screen, and a screen Inverter are a Matched unit.
If it's the wrong LCD screen......................?

5) IF, a screen Inverter is used; the diagnosis was wrong, and the LCD screen was replaced.
90 PERCENT of the time, the fault is a bad screen Inverter.

A) Laptop's LCD screen uses a CCFL, (Or more than one), for a Backlight; the laptop uses a screen Inverter.

Diagnostic flowchart leads from Graphics Chipset, to Video Cable, to screen Inverter, THEN, LCD screen.
Expensive LCD screen was replaced, instead of the actual part that needed replacing;
Video Cable: $9 to $22
Screen Inverter: $9 to $22

LCD screen: $60 to $245

B) Laptop's LCD screen uses LED backlighting, and does NOT use a screen Inverter:

Diagnostic flowchart is;
A) Video Cable;
A Video Cable should have it's connections PHYSICALLY checked.
You have to try to push the connectors in tighter.
Visual inspection alone will NOT do.

Making sure the Video Cable connections are tight, and this does not fix the problem, then the Video Cable needs to be removed; and every wire in the Video Cable checked for Continuity with a multimeter set to OHM's. (1K)

Not feasible, then take the Video Cable down to the nearest small computer shop; and have the resident tech check it for Continuity.
Should only be a few bucks.

Or just replace the Video Cable.
(Parts changing I know, but...........?)

Primer:
An LCD screen cannot produce light. It needs an additional light source.
A Backlight is the additional light source.

A Backlight can be a CCFL, (Or more than one), or a series of LED's.
(Light Emitting Diode)

A CCFL is a Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp. (Bulb)
Similar to Fluorescent lighting used in homes, and businesses; but on a MUCH smaller scale.

Average thickness is 2mm. That is a little large than 1/16th of an Inch.
Average thickness is almost as long, as the LCD screen is in height.

A screen Inverter is used to convert the power, (Electricity), from the laptop; for the LCD screen, and Backlight.

As previously stated, Backlighting that uses CCFL, uses a screen Inverter.
LED backlighting MAY, or MAY NOT use a screen Inverter.
When the LED backlight technology first came out, it seems some did use a screen Inverter.
It also seems as the technology advanced, LED backlighting does Not use a screen Inverter.

The LCD television is a flat-panel television which utilizes a Liquid Crystal Display technology. It has two layers of glass which are polarized and stuck together. The liquid crystals are held in one of the layers. These liquid crystals pass, or block the light, to produce images on the screen when the electric current passes through it.

However, the crystals do not produce their own light. The light comes from the series of fluorescent lamps at the back of the screen. There are millions of shutters arranged in a grid, which open and close to release and trap some of the light that is not needed to create images. Then each shutter is paired with a colored filter which produces a sub-pixel. These are so small, that when they combine, they create a single pixel, which appears to be a single spot of color on the screen. With the help of the fluorescent lamps, the images created by the liquid crystals become visible to the viewer.

LCD television produces high image quality. They can be made very thin, which makes them less space-consuming, and the user can hang them anywhere. This makes them appealing to buyers.

LED TV's are actually very much like LCD TV's. They also have a flat-screen which utilizes Liquid Crystal Display technology. The only difference is their source of light, which is at the back of the screen. The LCD TV uses fluorescent lamps, and the LED TV uses LED (Light Emitting Diodes).

There are two types of LED backlighting. One is referred to as Edge lighting, and the other is called Full-Array lighting. With the Edge lighting, the series of diodes are arranged along the outside edges of the screen. When there is power, the light is distributed across the screen. Alternatively, in Full-Array lighting, there are several rows of diodes behind the entire surface of the screen. They provide more control over brightness and dimming, because the diodes can be turned on and off independently.



LED TV's are LCD TV's with a new backlight system. They are newly developed for LCD's, because Light Emitting Diodes are said to give more balance in color saturation, and use less power than the fluorescent lamps. LED TV's are the newest version, and that's why they are currently more expensive than the standard LCD TV's.

Summary:

LED TV's are still LCD TV's. They are just considered to be the newer LCD TV version because of the new backlight system used. The LED TV uses Light Emitting Diodes, while the standard LCD TV uses fluorescent lamps. Although they both still use Liquid Crystal Display technology. The main difference is the part behind their screen, which is the backlight.

Changed the lcd screen but all i have is a white screen


1) Loose connection of the Video Cable TO the motherboard, and/or TO the back of the LCD screen.

Can easily happen when reassembling.
(If you can't reuse the sticky tape on the back of the LCD screen, that holds the Video Cable to it, use more tape )

2) Incompatible LCD screen.
MATCH up the manufacturer's numbers on the back of the old LCD screen, to the new one.

They MUST crossover, and match up, if they are two different LCD screen manufacturers.

The screen Inverter is MATCHED to the LCD screen, also.

Matching up the Model Number, (Product Number for HP), may not be all the info you need.
Matching the numbers off of the old screen, for the new one, is.

Under the red heading - Find Your Spare Parts - click on the blue Down Arrow to the right of the - Choose Model - box.
What Model is yours?

Write down the manufacturer and product ID number.
Now go to the far upper left of the page. In the box under - Part Number Search, type the letter/numbers for your old LCD screen.

On the page that comes up. Do they match?
Putting the letter/numbers in for the LCD screen you just purchased.
Do they match?

IF the old LCD screen works at all, reconnect it, and see if it works.
If so the LCD screen you purchased does not.

3) Make SURE the screen Inverter cables (Wires) are connected tightly.

[ Check the connection of the Video Cable to motherboard first.
Then the Inverters wires, then the Video Cable connection at the back of the LCD screen ]

The HP Mini 1000 series of Netbook PC's uses a CCFL.
Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp.

Similar to Fluorescent lighting used in homes, and businesses, but on a MUCH smaller scale.

OR a series of LED lights. Depends on the model. (8.9 inch LCD screen models usually use CCFL. 10.1 models usually use LED lights)

A screen Inverter (FL Inverter) is used to convert power from the laptop, for the Backlight, and LCD screen.

Make sure there is 6 Volts DC power going through the Inverter.

[ NOTE*
90 PERCENT OF THE TIME the fault is the Inverter ]

The green light comes on but the screen wont light up, meaning the tv wont turn on

You have to check the back light of your lcd TV. All lcd screen have a back light to illuminate the pixels. you can conform is the back light is faulty or not by watching the lcd screen nearby. Watch can you see any image (negative image) on the screen. you have to look very closely. if you see any image on the screen then the back light or the back light inverter is faulty.

You have to check the back light inverter board. Normally in lcd monitors you can see three circuit boards. power supply, mother board, and the inverter board. If available then try to replace the inverter board. There are high voltage transformers in this board. There is a chance for its winding get short. You will not get the transformer in open market. Try for the inverter board .

Hi, my hp dv2000 screen is blank when I turn it on. It hums and lights up like it's supposed to, but the screen is completely blank! What do I do?


Look at the LCD screen very closely and check if you can see a faint image on the screen. It's possible that the LCD lid close switch stuck in the "closed" position and the back-light stays off even when you open the LCD screen or turn on the laptop. The switch turns off the back-light when you close the LCD display to save the laptop battery power.

If that didn't fix it then there are 3 things that could have gone wrong:

1. Video cable connection from inverter to LCD got loose. To check this, follow instructions from step 3 on how to open the LCD and check if cable is fitted properly.

2. The video inverter is faulty
The screen inverter failure is very similar to the back-light lamp failure. In both cases the screen gets very dark and the image on the screen becomes very faint, barely visible under a bright light. If it's still under warranty, take it for a replacement. You can replace this otherwise - you can find the inverter under the screen, follow the procedure described at point 3 to open up the screen.

3. The LCD monitor is faulty
If it works on an external monitor most likely the LCD is faulty and needs replacement. If it's still under warranty, take it for a replacement. If not, you can do it yourself, it's pretty easy. Remove the rubber covers on the side of the screen, unscrew the screws take the plastic cover off, disconnect the video inverter and put in the new LCD after you connect the video inverter to it.

Lcd light


More than likely you will need to replace the LCD screen. The backlight may have burned out making it blank.

A new LCD screen runs about 15 dollars shipped from ebay2.gif.

The W580i LCD screen is very easy to replace. Probably one of the easiest I have ever done.

Friend, it is in the keypad/light interface be sure it is firmly attached.press a little of that connection to restore the lights.

The LCD screen is hard to see. What should I do?


If the LCD screen is too bright or too dark, adjust the LCD Brightness setting in the Setup Menu. If you are shooting photos outdoors in bright light, move the joystick to the icon showing the sun over shaowed area to turn on Outdoor mode and make the LCD screen easier to see in bright light.
