Hi,

Welcome to Fixya. If the red light is flashing it basically means that there is power. Do you hear the fan of the processor spinning but the monitor won't display anything? If YES, then we need to check if the problem is either the Video Card, Video cable or the RAM (Memory).

Check Video Card and Cable:

If you have an idependent graphic card can you try to swap the video cable if it is connected to the graphic card then trasfer it to the onboard card and vise versa to check if you will be able to see the display. You can also try to switch the monitor to check if the problem is LCD.

How to check RAM or Memory Module:

If you can open the side panel of the system and swap the memory module to a different port and see if it will work or if you have a spare memory module that is PC3200 or DDR 400 MHz try to replace the existing one to check if the cause is the memory.

If you try to power the system but the fan fan on the processor is not spinning. This indicates that the problem relies on either the motherboard or the power supply.

If you have questions please let me know. Thanks for using Fixya.

I have a Sony VCG-RB50 and lost power in a storm, the indicator light on the power supply if flashing and computer won't turn on. Any ideas?

try doing a power cycle first to release any static electricity.
  1. unplug the power cord from the power outlet.
  2. press and hold down the power button for 7-10secs
  3. plug the computer's power cord to a known power outlet
hope this helps.. ü

Is there a rest button on the Sony VAIO VGC-RB50 PC Desktop?

Hello,

Do you mean Reset button?

Computers these days do not have Reset buttons. What you can do is hold the power button on for about 5 seconds and the computer will shut down. Press it again and the computer will boot up again.

If this is not what you mean, please explain futher.

Thanks for using Fixya.

Green light flashing on back of unit near power cord also green light flashing on motherboard near power supply plug in.

I would suggest trying to replace the power supply. If that does not fix the issue, i would need to hear more about the computer.

VGC-RB50 Display Problem

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I think that the MB or the processor just took a dive on you. Most likely the processor... as you are able to power up. If it were the memory or the video card, you would hear a series of beeps when trying to start the computer. And you already verified the monitor is fine.

Sony VAIO VGC-RB50 No Power

Most likely you have a problem with your power supply. First off make sure your Input voltage selector switch is properly set. This switch should be located next to the power cord. In most cases it is red in color, and will have "115V" and "230V" printed on the switch. I have seen red switches and black switches, but mostly red. I you live in the US, you should see "115V", Europe is "230V". Before flipping the switch, unplug power cord.

Since the light is blinking, you are getting power to the power supply. The power supply might be bad, and you need a new one.
