Question about Sewing Machines
You don't say what make and model this is on. However, if it is 38 years old I'm assuming that you firstly need to disenage the clutch by holding the outside of the flywheel (big wheel on the right of your machine), then turning the inner wheel towards you. This disengages the needle going up and down and engages the bobin winder in many models.
If this does relate to an early Elna sewing machine you may wish to join the yahoo group Heirloom Elnas, as the members are very helpful with sharing old manuals and info on these older machines.
Hope this helps a little.
